I've never heard that they need "exercise" by flaring
For some strange reason I pretty sure I read somewhere that you did "need" (I don't if they needed this or this person just recommended it) to exercise them but by placing a mirror in front of them for a bit. But I could be totally wrong.....wheres a betta expert when you need one? *looks around*

I think its a good choice to wait on the breeding!

A month ago (08/03) you were planning the stocking of your 10g tank. Whatever happened to that plan? You haven't mentioned the 10g tank for a while. BTW is the hurricane any threat in your specific area?

Oh, and I'd go for fish over a wii anyway :p But that's just my mad fish brain!
I agree! We just got a Wii. I played it for the first week after Christmas. After that, I've hardly touched it, but yet I fuss over my fish for hours a day. Besides, an Xbox is better. I don't own one, but from playing friends' games, it's way better. The Wii is twitchy and doesn't have many good games. It does have Zelda, Okami and Metroid, which are probably the only benefits.

My, have I gone off topic! I'd take a new tank over a game system any day!

Yeah, whatever did happen to that 10 gallon? Misterking makes an excellent point about the spare tank.
I personally would not wait until May for a new tank. Your gourami could kill your betta by then, and in my experience, mom's aren't always truthful.

I'm going to hijack this thread since we're discussing betta flaring. My girlie, who is usually very calm, has been flaring at me recently. She only flares at night, when I sit down next to her tank. I'm thinking that it's mainly from her medicine, but I don't know. I'm doing a water change tonight to get the yicky stuff off the sand. Sand shows everything!
