You should go back in wherever they have them for $12 and ruin their day, drop off a copy of the article from apple snail.net and tell them that their 12 dollar snails are the same ones that everyone else sells for 2. and better yet they're really easy to breed haha

Out of 7 mystery snails i bought for 99 cents each 5 were apple-snails. The apple-snails were 8.99 each. The breathing tube or syphon is what distinguishes them from each other. On my snails it is very visible and more so as they get bigger. Your snail is an apple-snail as you can see the breathing tube. As i stated earlier there is a great place called applesnail.net that has a lot of info on all snails and has a great picture of an applesnail and the syphon/breathing tube. You will also find info on care, breeding etc. Hope you have fun with your snail. I now own about 20 apple, spixie, horn and mystery snails. They add a lot of interest to my aquariums and are neat little critters.

I got my apple snail for like £1.50... lol - they were TRYING TO GET RID OF THEM ... And they had them in a tank with fish that were eating at them, YIKES! Mine passed away not too recently, he was VERY active...
