Getting my multies this Friday - I can't wait!

I'm also setting up a smaller 20L that I picked up last week for an extremely reasonble price. My wife has officially drawn the line at 2 tanks now! :) That's just fine with me - we have 2 young 'uns and they take up (and deserve) most of my free time. Back in my single days I ended up with WAY too many tanks and it ended up feeling like a chore keeping up with them all.

In any case, I'm torn between brevis, occies and stapps for the 20L.

i've not heard of anyone ever using rainbows to cycle a tank before so i'm not sure if they could survive the ammonia and nitrate stage of the cycle.

my vote goes to the occies for the 20L, those golden ones sure do look nice.

No kidding - hopefully the pet cats will keep their numbers down, though. They're mighty cute, I must say (the pet cats). At first they hid all the time, but now they're really out and about, scavenging uneaten food from the multies' shells - which doesn't thrill the multies too much! :)

wow that is a lot of multies, yeah i'm sure the catfish will eat a few, but they multies will do whatever they can to stop them, they can quite pretty aggressive.

Holey moley, my pet cats are all over the tank! They are scaling the background and the front of the tank, and invading the multies' shells with extreme prejudice! They're just amazing. :)

I'll try to get some pictures this weekend when I have some time to sit down and figure out how to take some decent pictures with my digicam.

What kind of syno's did you get? (you may have said but I overlooked)

I have S. multipunctatus. They are a hoot to watch. Mine learned within a short amount of time that when I feed flake food in the tank to swim upside down on the surface of the water to take the food first. All the cichlids in the tank wait for the food to fall, so they get first dibs on it by doing this.

Mine also harassed the multie colony for a good while. The shellies finaly got it though to the cats that they wern't welcome to cruse over the shells. lol They still do everynow and then, but no near as often as when they were first put into the tank. My cyps also seem to like to make raids on the colony every now and then too. I get the feeling that they do it for the fun of it more than anything else. :)

The syno's are a little tricky to get some decent pics of as they don't ever seem to stop or slow down. Best thing I've done is to use a higher shutter speed and a flash. And a lot of luck!
