yep they are live beares. in our aquarium BAP pionts they are a high piont fish which usually means they are hard to breed. But i look at itthis way...i cant breed a guppy or a convict so anything is tough for me. all my purple moscows guppies are pregant so i have my fingers crossed. and then u hear of people breeding these hard to breed fish like guppies.... all i can say is good luck

I have another question (not about my half beaks) but is there a way to clean a tank that has babies in it?  Or should I just wait till they get bigger before I clean them.  A friend gave me 15 red dwarf jewels and I have extra food and some dead at the bottom (oops).

yeah.  u can clean the tank just depends on what extent. total tank breakdown would be bad, because u would have to go through the nitrogen cycle.  but if u are just thinking about vacuuming the gravel, water changes, or doing small maintenence it shouldnt hurt the little ones a bit. the littleones would greatly appreciate a clean tank now while they are growing.

Im afraid of sucking them through the hose if i vacum the thing.... and the tank also has Java moss in it....  So how do I clean it without giving the thing a heart attack by being sucked through a hose.

just becareful, u might shake them up a bit running from the vac. but just becarefull and not do around the spots they hide. do half the tank now and other half later.... if they are close dont vacuum wait till they are away  from it.

Ive got a 48" light sitting on 4 10gal tanks.... I turned them on for the first time and my Half beaks didnt seem to like it. They hid at the bottom and even went under the filter...  I need the light on for the plants... got any ideas as to how and dim the light in just one of the tanks without blocking the light and starting the fire.

you could try making a cover out of plexiglass and cittung it to the size of the tank.then paint it black..this should stop some o fthe light ..but this would not be good if you have plants in the tank..but if there are n plants this would be the way i would try it.

they will get used to it. i wouldnt worry about it to much. since they are new to your surroundings they will be skittish until they get used to it.

Ive got another problem ( I think its a problem)  I have two puffers and today they developed a large bump on their underside.... If I didnt know better I would think they both became extremely pregant.  but considering I have two and they both got it I dont think so.

I did give them two types of new food today, I hope this wont kill them.
1) I got some baby brime shrimp for my half beaks and gave some of my puffers some too

2) I also got some new flake food but its made from the same company as before, the only difference was that it was sapose to make the fish more colourful

What could be wrong with my cute little puffers..... :'(

hello FB,

been awhile since we have gotten a chance to chat. are u still answering all the old posts?.... ::) I belong to the GPASI.
the Greater Pittsburgh Aquarium Society, Inc. I have learned a great bit about somethings dealing with fish from them . really glad I jioned them.  Biggest thing is patience and clean water. If you have a problem there is always someone who can help. the only thing is i live a good drive from pittsburgh to get lots of help from the people there when i need but at the VP of the club lives only a few blocks away from me. He has gotten me some really interesting fish that u dont see at the normal shops.... sorry Mish cant help you on that subject. FB might be right on the bloat but i only know Ick and a couple others. not good at diseases at all....thankfully for my  clubs VP he helps me when i get outbreaks of stuff... 1 of my cichlids has black spots on him....he said it is a type of melanoma that the cichlids get. i would have never known that... I thought that a trait of OB was starting to show through.....

Well the problem seems to have gone down today...  As for the pine cone thing, not really. the body shape didnt change, just a bump on the bottom.  Oh well as long as it has corrected itself.  Maybe they just ate to much.
