My 29 has a 250w Ebo Jager(overkill I know); I havn't touched the temperature dial in over 2 years, and it has never fluctuated by more than .5 degrees.
As for the walmart heaters, there are two types now... the Elite, which should be avoided like the plague, and their new type which is a blantant visitherm knock off - It is even called visitherm, the only difference being the Marineland name isn't on it. My guess is they liscensed Marineland's design and produce it for cheaper. I can't say for sure how well it stacks up quality-wise, but a friend of mine has two of them and has no complaints.
