the fan won't cause shock. most fish are used to some surface agitation. the tempurature won't drop past what your heater is set at.

When I was taking about shock. I was talking about adding ice to the tank. That could put your fish into shock if the temp difference was to much. That would be in extreme cases of heat.

The fan method that others are talking will not case shock. Unless the fan falls in the tank

oh ok and ya i better hope the fan doesnt fall in that will definetly cause them shock.(uh oh)
