or you can leave it off for the 4 days... on will promote algae growth... the natural light in the room is enough for the fish... it's pretty dark under water in lakes and rivers... the light is mostly for your plants and you to enjoy your fish. :)

I recently had to adjust the amount of cleanings I did on my tanks. My small tank I was instructed to keep the water "clean enough to drink....not that you'd want to". My betta is dealing with fin rot; even with medications it's really tough to clear and I've lost a few to it, so now, I do a BIG water change every couple of days.
However, if you're adding salt, do not add any more salt until you remove water!! Then, add only enough to add up to the original amount; ie, if you originally put in 2 tbs, then you remove half the water, and replace it, then you would ONLY add 1 tbs, to end up with the correct amount :). If that's what you are going with, that is (salt).
The changes can only help your beautiful fish. I'm not a fan of fancy goldfish at all, but yours is truly remarkable. Silver! She's a beauty :) Give her that fresh clean water that she deserves, and if you can, remove the tank mates.
Too much stress on the system of that size, since the poop factor with goldfish is off the charts....good luck!!!

Hey thanks for all the help! Now I know what to do with my salt issue! Thank you..

Just one more question about the salt, I lost my snail when I added salt in the tank, thats when I used regular table salt...
Now I bought some aquarium salt, no instructions included, but I read that I tbs is enough to a 5g tank? I have added just a few drops of the salt and I'm planning of getting a new snail?? What must I do and can I get a snail??

Thank you!:D

Freshwater snails are like slugs with shells. Salt will kill them, just like it did your last one. Table salt or aquarium salt will do the same thing. If you have any scaleless fish, like loaches or catfish, you'll have problems with those too.

When in doubt leave the salt out.

NO!! Salt will not kill those LBs!! I tried it and they didn't die, so I researched it and asked my lfs store and everything said that they won't die. At least Pond Snails and Ramshorns won't.

Hey peeps.

So I bought a new apple snail, still very small. Ive added the snail on Friday.
Some of the fish at our pet shop is sick, white spots etc, but they say they got it sick from their supplier. Anyway, so I've added the snail.

My one goldfish has a cloudy like eye today? What does that mean? I'm so bad luck with my fish hey!!!

Is it water quality, infected or just a thing that will go away??

PS: NOT ADDING SALT ANYMORE!!!

Thanks!
