ICK?

I got a pair of fancy guppies yesterday and I think the female might have ick. She'll swim sidewase in tiny sprints by random objects. There is no form of visible problems like white spots or anything. I'd use my ick clear tablets but one treats ten gallons and it's a 1 1/2 gallon tank. Please help.

I think you would spend more on the meds, then you would on the fish, but thats just me.

raise the temperature to 83 degrees and in a week it will be gone if it is in fact ich. I have dealt with ich alot now with feeder fish ususally bringing it in, I would wait to se if you see and white spot and if you do then I would in fact raise the temperature. I have NEVER used salt as part of my treatment and I have always gotten rid of it with the higher temperatures.

Thank you, I'll try that. I'm not saying your wrong, but isn't raising the temperature just a way to speed up its metabolism so meds can take effect during the free-swimming stage of ick's life.

I don't really care how much the cure costs if I can save a pregnant fish's life. That's like letting a fish starve just because the food is too expensive.

you dont need meds with the higher temperatures it speeds its life cycle up alot so the whole process takes hours instead of weeks.

Mine too!!! I'm always worried its gill flukes Is there anything that should be done for them, or just ignore it?

watch them closely to see if any specs show up. I have a betta that's been flashing for a year now. I think he's just spastic.

If spots do show up, raise the temp and add salt (there's several threads in the disease forum for reference.)

I just tested my water because my male fancy guppy keeps laying on the bottom. When I got home from school he was under marbles. The water had an acidic PH, should I do something? What?

isolate your fancy guppy,treat it with Melafix

I don't have Melafix, but I did a water change and he seems to be doing a bit better. Should I add Stress Coat to help him recover?

Have you tested your water? A water change should help but you need to know your numbers. Fin rot is typically caused by poor water conditions. Stress Coat should help but you need to correct the problem first. How old is the aquarium? Ammonia, nitrites, nitrate?
