Identify that Pleco!

Sorry for the blurriness, he was about to move.

I think he's just a common Pleco, but my fish knowledge is lacking. Can anybody give me a solid identification?

LOL thats hilarious

um you need a better pic because there are a lot of close look alikes in the pleco species. it almost kinda looks like a hairy pleco, clown, or tiger pleco but then again it is REALLY blurry and you need a better clearer pic of it to really tell

try liveaquaria.com and they have a lot of pics on it of various plecos and you may be able to tell that way. but there are also a lot that they do not have pics of

Blurry but it could be either an L-01 or a sailfin pl*co. Either way your going to need one hell of a tank to hold one.

I see features of both, so I cant tell

Its dorsal fin is down, but when its up it looks like...well a sail?

Yeah, deffo starting to look like a Sail-fin. What size is he tank? They get up to 20 inchs.

yeah im thinking a sail fin, maybe a possibility of a demon horn pleco but i cant get a good enough look at it.

Its only 25 gallons.....something tells me he's going to get way to big for the tank

im pretty sure that is a hifinned like the one i have in my signature. looks exactly like mine did when he was small

actually i take that back because the hifin that i have is dark w/ yellow spots not yellow with dark spots and every hifin that ive seen is dark w/ yellow spots. its a pretty pleco though i do have to say that.

WOW 20 inches. ive seen fully grown common plecos and man they are HUGE at 18 inches. my buddy had a fully grown pleco in with his turtles in a 125 gallon and that pleco made the turtles look small

Haha common plecos get even bigger, 2 foot in optimal conditions.

My suggestion would be, take it to the LFS and swap it for something smaller. A bristlenose, clown or rubbernose pleco would work well in your tank if they have them in. They get to around 6 inches a piece

Yeah, I think I'm going to take him and my big silver dollar back, as the silver dollar really eats the plants.

That's a much better picture, pretty sure it's a sailfin now. And yeah, silver dollars are notorious plant eaters in the aquarium!
