Here is a pic of my 12G Nano that I started today. There is 18lbs of Live sand with a thin (3/4 inch) layer of play sand. The center (larger) rock in the tank is georgous. Tons of stuff growing on it and there are holes and crevasses everywhere. I will get better pics when it clears up a little but here is one now. Comments Welcome.

I really like the aquascaping, much better than usual. I am not so keen on the fact that it covers so much of the dsb. If something like 75% of the surface of a dsb isn't open to water flow some fairly whacky aerobic/anaerobic situations will arise where the nitrate isn't reduced to nitrogen, but ammonium, and a big algae storm will ensue. Unless you have a specific need I would pull it now before you start.

Deep sand bed. Used in the plenum method of filtration... deep sand bed of courser sand, often with a grate of some form 2 inches down to prevent burrowing creatures for messing up the anaerobic action going on down there.

Your rocks look great. Really fill out the tank, natural looking.

I think that this is what I am going to put in this tank.
5-7 Nassarius Snails
1 Blood Red Fire Shrimp
2-3 Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
1 Dwarf Zebra Hermit Crab
1 Purple Firefish
1 Rainsford Goby
Of course not all at once but Ive done some research so. What do ya'll think?

You may run into problems with that stocking list when it comes to the SHRIMP as the Blood Red can be territorial. If I where you I would stick with only one kind and go with only two in a 12gl as both speciese grow to approximatly 2" (that's the body not including lenght of antennaes)

As for the Firefish make sure you have a tight fitting lid on the tank; as I noticed lots of open space in the back of your tanks lid for the fish to jump out of...and a firefish will jump!

I would also strongly suggest upping the number of Dwarf hermits to at least 1 per lbs of LR that you have in you tank to help keep certaine algaes under controle.

The rest looks good, can't wait to see more pics!

You beat me to it Salty Waters. I am using a Corallife Aqualunar light (24"), Seio Super Flow M80 Powerhead and All Glass Aquarium 100 Watt Heater. Im using the rock to filter and doing a 1G water change a week, as well as the top off. I read somewhere that I didnt need a skimmer. Is that right?

-Looks pretty good, the only things I would suggested is to have split up the heating into two units of lower wattage instead of one; just a little safer that way incase one buggers up.
-The other thing you may want to look into is another low powered power head just to stir the current up, so it is not so constant and circular, if you get into corals this helps with supplying them with a more natural envirnment for feeding...and it give them that nice swaying motion which looks cool!
-Water Changes should be more around the 3-4gl per week (25-33.34%) if your not using a skimmer. I was using a Prizm hang on skimmer on my 10gl but I took it off for now to try without and I am now doing at least 30% per week...but I have a number of corals and inverts in my tank. Remember without the skimmer the only way any of the junk is gettig out of that water is by you changing it and if you are only doing a 1gl per/week that is only removing 8.34% of the water which is not very much.

These are just my suggestions:) but ya.. your tank is looking good! Looking forward to seeing pics later.

Thanks for the advice. I think that I might do that. I am planning on doing corals. My husband wanted to fill up the 60G will corals but after my last loss I was a little leary. So I bargained with him. We are going to put some of the larger corals (just a couple) and maybe some muschroom into the 60G. And we are going to fill the nano with stuff. I thought that it was cheaper than fill both. Anywayz, Im blabbing. Thanks again!
