You're going to need a tank that's bigger than that- more like 90g or so, but you might be able to pull it off with a 55 for a little while. (Anything is better than a 10g)

Check your local newspaper in the Classified section.
My newspaper has a part for items under $500- if yours has this too, look for "Fish Tank", "Aqaurium", "Tank", "Reptile Tank", etc. And also check the Pet/Animals section for tanks. I've seen 55g for $40 in the paper.

Good luck finding one- I'm glad you're looking for a bigger tank :)

With the stock you have, you should be doing water changes at least 3 times a week, if not more to keep the load on the filter down.
Have you explained to your dad that your tank is heavily overstocked and that your the health of your fish is at risk if you don't acquire a bigger tank?

Well you'd better not stop saving money anytime soon if your going to go new for everything.

That's to bad. I know of a few clubs in the centeral and eastern part of TN and some members are always looking to unload some tanks. I wouldn't say that all used stuff is bad. Sometimes all you get is other peoples problems, but other times you can get some really good equipment out of the deal.

Um, why is used stuff bad? All my tanks are used except for the 10g, and I've never bought a leaky used tank. All their filters, lights, and stuff are also used except for the heaters, and all work great. Plus they were all very cheap. $50 isn't going to go very far for a new set up... have you checked out the prices of stands alone new?

You don't really need to worry much about possible chemical use, just rinse it very well before you fill it. You can clean with diluted bleach too, and then rinse that really well and rinse again with some extra-dechlorinated water.

Ditto to what Caps said, I have 14 (I think, I may have missed one or two LOL) tanks and I have yet to pay for one of them, the only thing I woulden't use that was pre-used would be media. Anything cleanable can be cleaned and, like caps, I have yet to see a leak.

I just got a 10gal that was in HORRID condition, a few bleach scrubs/soaks and alot of rinsing and then a trip in front of the fan (to dry and remove any residual bleach) and now it looks like this! :) Free/Cheap tanks can be very helpful.

Damn COOLFISH! CHILL OUT!

I've got a 25g Acrylic tank you can have if you pay shipping. Have you ever been to PetsMart? If so, in their fish section, did you notice their holding tanks? That's what it looks like. Its got blue acrylic for the bottom, back & sides. The front slants at, I'd say, a 25 degree angle. What I mean is that the bottom measures about 24" across & the top measures about 18". There is one spot on it on the top where it looks like there was a heat lamp that made the acrylic bubble ('bout the size of a silver dollar). It's really no big deal.

I got the tank off of ebay a couple of years back & have yet to put it to use.

It's not very heavy, just bulky. Therefore, I wouldn't imagine it would cost more than $20 to ship.
