no idea how it started. we got it empty and we are going to take it outside to fill it with water and test for leaks...i bet we will either end up ripping out all the silicone or hopefully buying a new (75gallon) tank

ouch, sorry that sucks. 20gal is pretty tiny though, if you can't use some silicon to fix it up you can probably just buy one pretty cheap for just the tank. My little tank is a 1 piece acrylic (plastic) tank.

Meaty fits in the 20gal...but there is no filtration on it right now...just an air stone and a heater

how would i re-seal a tank? rip out the inside silicone (keeping glass peices together) and then just put more silicone on?? if anyone has a website to DETAILED instructions please let me know!!

that about covers it. Katie one thing you want to keep in mind, do not try and patch the whole. A "quick fix" may be very bad. Take down the entire side that is leaking and reseal the whole part. The tank may not be leaking on the inside at the same spot it is on the outside. good luck, its not to hard, and while you are doing it, use some silicone to glue some tubing to the bottom. It makes for routing air stones (from side to side) underneath your substrate very easy.

Ugh, sorry about this whole debacle, Katie.
Main thing will be to get his temporary 20 gal. home in order first. All you really need to begin with is a heater and some source of surface agitation (a seeded filter being much better, of course, along with seeded gravel).

I'm assuming you've at least gotten that done already, so Meaty should do fine for a few days while you get a more permanent fix for him. I'd do daily water changes to keep nitrAtes down, and I'd strongly recommend minimizing feedings as much as possible. As much as I hate to suggest depriving a growing oscar of food, a few days shouldn't hurt, and it'll go a long way toward helping with water quality while he's waiting on his permanent home to be ready for him.

Hang in there! :)

I have the tank outside right now to dry out...and apparently it RAINED today!! Figures right?
So when my parents get home tonight (around 5pmish) I'll take the tank inside and rip out the old silicone and do the job. Hopefully Meaty should be in his new resealed tank tomorow evening, or friday at the latest. HOPEFULLY I can convince my mother that it would be more beneficial to just buy a NEW tank (75gal ;) ) that we know is ALOT safer because its new...Just to prevent this whole thing from happening again, and to give Meaty a better quality of life.
Wish me luck on asking my mom!!
