So here is the deal, I had already planned for 2nd small tank but instead of ordering a small tank, I ordered a "Thicker and Taller" tank with same 30 inch length but 15" depth and 24" tall. so it comes around ~47g ( 8mm thickness glass for approx 42 USD here, expensive? cheap? ).

If i take gravel space and 1 inch air-space at top it becomes 44 US Gallon pure water fishtank for my 2 big Veil-Fain-tail goldies.

Now, I have my idea how to move the water + gravel/sand + plants + goldfish in the new tank. This new tank is going to become my primary tank in main hall, I will think about what to do with 30G tank later because its thinner (only 6mm) and goes dirt cheap, i may as well use it as hospital tank or something else.

First, today, I have collected a bucket (8G) of old water when doing water change, i am not going to throw this water. Tomorrow i will be getting the tank. Below are the steps i plan to take. This first bucket has 20% space left.

I am going to add Tap water to New tank, approx 10G, to test for any leakage and wash the fishtank but going to keep the water in till i am ready to move it to my stand.

With 30G Tank:-

1) Disconnect all lights, airpump, filter wires. Remove bulbs. Then remove tank-cover.

2) Siphon off 10G of water in 2nd bucket . this will fill it almost 90%, Now will catch the goldies and put them in this 2nd bucket.

3) Start taking some gravel off the tank, just near the plants ,to loosen the roots. collect some gravel in 1st bucket (filling it 20%).

4) Siphon off rest of water in 3rd bucket. just leaving some inches of water in tank (so plants kinda floating and also the gravel doesnt dry).

5) Collect some gravel in 3rd bucket nearly topping it off and place plants floating in this 3rd bucket. Now only filters +some water+some gravel are remaining in tank.

6) Remove and place filters in 2nd (goldfish) bucket. and will not run. placing them in water so sponge doesnt dry off.

7) Remove rest of the water + gravel slowly in 4th bucket.

8) Wipe off this 30G tank (so it doesnt slip) and move it off the main-stand.

Bucket 1: 1 day old fishtank water with some gravel.
Bucket 2: Just old fishtank water with some gravel.
Bucket 3: Fishtank water with Goldfish + filters.
Bucket 4: Fishtank water + plants + rest of gravel.

With NEW 40G Fish-tank:-

1) Remove the tap-water after inspection for any leakage.

2) Dry it off so it doesnt slip when moving.

3) Move tank to main-stand. with new thermocol (To cushion base of tank and avoid slipping of tank from the stand) .

4) Start adding of water from 1st bucket , should fill around 5 inches of tank. keep gravel wet in this bucket.

5) Start adding water from 2nd bucket. Keep gravel wet.

6) Start adding water from 4th bucket. keep gravel and plants wet here.

7) Now as i might see the tank is almost ~50% filled with water.
I will start adding gravel from each bucket. I will then start planting the stems etc from 4th bucket and use the last of gravel to level out the landscaping.

I should see the tank all brown etc.

8) Remove filter and add them in the tank (submerged in water). and start filters :).

Take 2 hour break and see the tank settling down with filters running.

9) Now add water from the 2nd bucket , till the fishies cant run. now move fishies in new tank and empty the bucket.

I am assuming New tank will be ~65%-75% Filled with old tank water with gravel+plants+fishies.

10) I will let this New tank run for another 3-4 hours. Then I will fill the tank with New water, which will be treated with prime during this 3-4 hour break. In end, just finish up with lights etc and clean the room.

How does this plan look? Missing a step or 2?

As expected the tank has arrived in middle of week and me got no time, but this is actually good. I am going to let the silicon harden for another day, then do the leak test by filling it with tap-water (90%) and keep it that way for another 2 days and then empty it on weekend.

BTW my head is filled with ideas and i mean TONS of ideas, only thing is this is going to be Goldfish tank. A thing not attempted anywhere by any amatuer's professionals or insane around the world (atleast i didnt see it documented). The only aquascapes i have seen in goldfish tank are fake-plants and Stone's LOL. but i want real plants and real scaping with everything, like moss, plants, grass, stones and even a wood (v later on).

So as my mind is running on, I am going to go at this AS slow as possible, so this may take months just to finish and make it my primary tank, then a year to see does the scape survive ;).

So I will start taking pics and vids as i start on this. hope you guys have fun at this journal.

niennnnnn...nien nien nien nien......(stomps like hitler).

lolz. i really swear, didnt find fully landscape vid on youtube or google. i did find some stones and fake plant setups and some temporary fishtank for goldfish babies with plants, no one documenting a successful fishtank with scape and goldfish, if you read those vids, the posters reply the tank is not there anymore or plants taken out etc.

Today , started the water test, filled it with water. I am still puzzled how will i move them when switching . lets see.

when setting up the tank, I am going to be the goldfish. like If i am in tank, where will i want to go again and again, what corner will i keep visiting to take out plants, which which places I wont even touch.

So far, I have found out goldfish scan the entire border of tank, if the plants are there, they will first play with it by brushing between the plant and glass surface, then after getting bored with playing they will start EATING it :p

well ya. but i wanna try a setting in my head. the border of entire tank will be free, the top will be free , Only the middle section can have some hardscape (tall and spreaded driftwood ) and covered with some plants and moss accordingly, then riccia carpet (dont laugh okay) tied neatly to plastic net. Lots of riccia so even if eaten torn, will be covered by growth, the a Trail in between (like a path from of road in forest) from the driftwood-stump like thing i have. the road lined with pebbles/stones on side.

Might draw this out this weekend.

if the riccia doesn't work cuz they eating it, put the netting with riccia into a platform of some-sort (like a breeding net) and up to the aquarium light. let it grow out then put it where you want it and pray they wont chow down...

first i am going to order riccia, then grow it like hell for some weeks in a bucket. then use that . And in mean time look for nice wood. Thats why i am saying this is going to take time cause something is cooking in my head :p

Also i am already growing LOTS of javamoss in a plastic (whitish tranparent) bucket in window and fry tray (remember that? only 5 left and ONE of the fry is HUGE compared to others, almost 1.5 cms, he is even growing some scales as i looked just now ).

ok this 46G is fully setup. I followed the procedure i mentioned and it worked perfectly. But i still cant find proper light-system which will sit on top of this tank, temporarily I am keeping the top-cover from old tank sitting on this 46G, dont worry, it wont fall in, i have kinda secured it.

The tank looks BEAutiful, i simply thrashed the plants in it literally, cause the time was ticking out and the goldfish pair were totally stressing in the bucket, i totally underestimated the size of this goldfish, the male was barely able to turn in the bucket, orangina was swimming okay but stressed.

Anyway, after almost 15 hours, the tank has completely assimilated. the setup is very similar to what i did in 29 G, but really spacious.

The goldfish and fry are acting like they have gone on steroids, i can see them for past 4 hours (after feeding in morning etc) they are still going all around the tank playing with bubbles, going against the strong current of filter and all that. :D

The goldfish fry are kindof shoaling, they stick together for most of the time.

Now regarding landscaping. I wont create carpet, I have decided this after seeing how dirty the gravel got when i was taking it out, so i dont think carpetting will work in long term and I dont want to keep messing with this tank.

But, I have got large amount of javamoss in 2 nano tanks, I will see i have more javamoss and riccia and I will be creating 2 types of moss-wall in background. Top part will be riccia (because it needs LOTS of light etc) and bottom part will be javamoss. I will wait out the summer here (it gets mad hot in next two months) then try to wall.

that was a pretty sweet price on the tank BTW, my 25 gallon with a pump, T5 light fixture, all glass top and heater was around $150.

but the primary reason you don't see goldfishes with live plants is because it is hard to find plants that outgrow their natural ability to eat anything and everything you put in front of them.
