My new Saulosi (Pics)

I just got my new saulosi today. 1 female was dead on arrival and the there is another female thats gonna die soon, shes on her side .
Here are some pics. Sorrry for the poor quality, my cam was running out of charge so i had to take them really quickly. I will get better ones later on.

dominant male, i think hes already claimed his territory

Is there any real way to tell males from females? There is definatley 1 dominant male but some of the 'female' have got some blue on there fins, does this mean they are sub males?

Oh wow nice male, already has his blue and everything! Thats awesome.

Personally i don't see much way to tell them apart unless they start to change. The male's bars should show through quite a bit.

I got some more pics. Iam down to 6 now because 2 females died the others are doing well tho.
I had to use flash because if i dont then the pics come out blurry:
The male is a much deeper blue in real life, the flash washes his color out

There is 1 'female' which i think could be male as 'she' has an egg spot and faint bars. , you can see 'her' in the bottom right of this pic.

Beautiful fish, Helena. That first pic you just posted is amazing!
The male having colored-up as C-Man mentioned is really a good sign too, I would think. I'd just chalk up the 2 losses to transportation shock and/or fish that weren't that healthy to begin with.

Either way, it looks like you've got a decent bunch!

Thanks BV. The male is not being agressive atm so that good, i even saw him shaking his tail at the female .
I think im gonna get some more tho coz i lost some

Thanks, Katie. Yea, i hope it is then i will have two males!
How long until they start breeding? they are quite big about 2-3inches atm.
Will the sub male breed with females or just the dominant?

Its possible that the subdom male could get some tail for sure. But its more likely that the dominant male will get the ladies

Congrats on the new fish. Too bad about the two girls, but at least the rest seem to be doing well. I suspect that other fish is a subdom male as well, but you'll know very shortly, he'll start to colour. I've got three damn males in my tank colouring up as we speak.
