new cichlid tank

i have a 55 gallon tank already set up with a few community freshwater fish but i just got a 45? gallon river tank which is the tall type of tank and i got it to set up a cichlid tank. But after doing farther research i learned that they like staying at the bottom of the tank better. So my question is do you think i should set up the river tank for them or switch tanks and move the community fish to the river tank?

Depends on the cichlid as to what area they tend to stay too. If you have rock dwellers, you can do some tall rock structures to get them to use more of the verticle space.
