I think I agree with Soulfish, I'd have to take a look in my Konings book to see if German Red is in there (I don't think so).
Steve is there any possibility you could get a closeup pic. so the fish would fill the whole frame.
Otherwise great looking tank!! Do you find the Mbuna eat up and pull out the plants.

thanks , and yes the cichlids eat the plants. it took a long time and a lot of trial and era to get the right combo.if you look close i have a lot of giant vall , echinodorus, red cryptos, and anubias.those plants all either grow fast or dont tast that good to fish.so if they do graze the tank recovers quickly.ill try to get a better pic of that peacock.if you want to see a history of my tank go to duboisi.com under totm march.steve

verse the fish in question was tagged at the lfs as a red shoulder.i just took thier word .after looking it up i saw the rubescen color in him right away.i also never said aulonocara were Mbuna like somonas said.but if you look up the description for rift lake cichlids in axelrods atlas he says"aquarists have given them honorary Mbuna status".
somonas i pulled this pic out of a larger one.i will still get a better one this weekend.steve

Just wondering...what year was Axelrods Atlas published? Aulonocara were said to be Mbuna many years ago...

And I wasnt referring to you when I I was talking about that. Bobrob said he thought they should have more rocks than plants, so I was explaining to him that only mbuna like it that way. Jay(Greentouch) has a peacock and hap tank thats awesome and has some nice plantwork in his tank.

Meh, I'd take anything Axelrod says about africans with a grain of salt. Look for Ad Koning's books on Lake Malawi cichlids. Also, I would pretty much ignore anything the LFS says about the "scientific" name of the fish you bought
