Alot of people on reefcentral also post good ones like "these things can chop off your finger!" While in reality some one tried to handle a mantis and it cut him to the bone, it got infected and he had to get his finger amputated.

Another good rumor about them is that you need double pained safety glass to keep them, and even then they can break the aquarium.

There is also a video on the net that shows what happens when a peacock mantis shrimp actualy does when its hits and object. It makes a cavitation bubble, when the bubble implodes it prpduces heat, light, and sound.

ive seen the thing on animal planet about the mantis shrimp. it was that top ten show. it was top ten fastest animals or something. it was about the PEACOCK mantis shrimp, not mantis shrimp in general. i think it was #1 on the list.

It was on the show 2 times. The first of course was it speed and power. The second is what I find interesting about these animals. Their eyes. They are able to see colors we cant, and can also see polorized light. This is one way these animals comunicate with each other, through polorized light.
