ya im just going with the ich gaurd. took out my shrimp on the advice of lfs employee.

They'll tolerate salt a lot better than a lot of ich meds...

Tex, I think brown algae is usual associated with new tanks. I got it in my very first tank and I just added lots of plants and kept up the regular water changes, making sure to rinse the filter media in treated water to help get rid of nitrates and of course scraped it off when it accumalated on things.

To treat ich, honestly I wouldn't even use the salt. I've found the heat only method works just as well, if not better, because I've never lost a fish to the heat only method but have lost fish to the salt method. I know that others have had success with the salt method so I prolly did it incorrectly.

yea, my tank is only about 6 weeks old, and the one oto i have in there now is eating like a champ.
