Jen - there will be some plants - in no means a Dutch tank.
I have a DIY CO2 setup on my other planted tank - it works OK, I supplement with a little Flourish Excel to be sure.  In that tank I have an airstone that I run on a timer - 45 minutes after the lights (also on timer) go off, the air comes on - so I never have to worry about pH and O2.  In the morning, about 1 hour before the lights go on, the air goes off.
I plan on the same set up here.

I'm shopping.  There was an article in a recent issue of one of my fish mags that spoke about planted rift tanks, what and who to put together.  
But, as always, if you have suggestions/opinions (that would never happen here at MFT) I would be very interested to see them...

What mag and what issue? I hate the fact that my 65/mbuna tank is the only tank without thriving live plants!
