here is some detailed pics of our 50gallon tiger barb, ghost shrimp set up...

full tank

left side

right side

just a few general pics

when we get our
long leave java fern
star moss
christmas moss
java moss
and some more java fern, same as what is in now

im going to do a water change and start adding plant food

then in the next few weeks remove the cons, and lone jewel

and add the first 6 original tiger barbs.
eventually adding a furthe 6 albino tiger barbs, and 6 green tiger barbs and 5 ghost shrimp of a good size.

i have started to find a few leaves of the java fern browning and breaking away from the root.

any suggestions why this is, i was thinking maybe the cichlids eating has caused it or possibly that it was pushed in the the substrate ive removed all from the substrate now and rooted it all to the rocks and wood which will be what all our plants will be fixed in place with sewing thread.

we usually had really good greening and growth from fern and moss plants i know my aquarium is only still in the early stages and not fully established yet so this could also be the problem but ill wait and see.

any comments or suggestions welcome
hope you enjoy our aquarium as much as we do :)

Yes, very good colors in the tank, the tiger barbs will really look great! Gravel is a bit deep though, it will just collect gunk, you could probably take a few cupfuls out.

to much gravel just means more WORK.
ive taken half the gravel outta 2 of my tanks and all the gravel in my fry tank.
and it made such a difference
and the tank looks really nice !
good luck
make sure you post pics when your done

hello everyone i decided to have a change around as i thought we had just a little too much holey rock and we wanted to make some space for our long thin leaf java fern when it arrives and we are going to add some more bog wood tomorrow to the left side to take the new star moss and christmas moss and we both think that it looks 1000 times better as all the rock was for cichlids and now were going tigers we wanted a more simple placid tank but still have the centre piece a cave den for them to play and i personally think ive done quite well for my first

anyway pics

hope you all like comments welcome good or bad...

thanks ill post some more pics tomorrow when it settles down and clears and we have the rest of the wood and some more plants

it still isnt totally natural looking how we wanted but without removing all the white gravel and the ocean rock and putting natural substrate lots of plants and bog wood i dont think we will acheive it and that means starting all over again
