Thanks so much everyone :)
I'm very happy to report that my mom is one of the lucky ones. *SUNSMILE* She is currently still in the hospital, but she is only 45 minutes south of me in a rehabilitation unit of a hospital. Much better than 4 hours south in Boston! Although I stayed with her (most of) the whole time, we were in Boston 20 days!
Just today - in fact - we had the big meeting with my mom, me, her doctors and all her therapists (occupations/physical/speech) to discuss her discharge - she's getting released this Friday!! She will still need home nursing three days a week to continue her rehab, so she's gonna stay here with me in Bangor for a few weeks until she is back 100%.
A million thanks to everyone for all the prayers & phone calls - they worked! And the good thing, is that I asked her physical rehab nurse if "housework" is considered good rehab, and they said yes! Heh Heh. Hey, I am just letting her do my housework for therapy, I want her to get better :)

oh no hun! That's awful! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

My dh's mom was in an accident in 2000. She was "T-boned" by a fire truck, in a coma for 2 weeks. When she came out, she was disoriented, slurred speech, blurred vision. She didn't know anyone. About 2-3 weeks later that part was back to normal, the physical part wasn't (broken arms, ribs, pelvis etc)

SO, I guess what I'm saying is try not to worry too much about things that don't seem normal to you. Just listen to the doctors and do what they recommend. That's the best way to go.

Great to hear your mom gets to leave the hospital. I bet she recovers faster being with you and her cat. Hopitals have thier purpose and with out it you wouldn't have your mom but I think the best recovery happens at home where it's comfortable and surounded by friends and family. OH and of course our finned and 4 legged friends. I'm sure she misses her cat as much as her cat misses her too.
