round or pointed?

if they're the pointed one, they're probably malaysian trumpets and those dig in the substrate making it really hard to get rid of them.

anything else you can probably just pick out or make a trap for.
also a loach would take care of them.

it's the MTS that are the royal pains in the rear.

next time i would dip your plants in that potassium something or other (someone help me out with the name...)

Permanganate! When i did my plants i got a plastic milk container (so i could throw it out) and cut it in half, i soaked the plants in a light PP mix (should be a lightish pinkish colour, not dark) and leave for 30mins. DO NOT go till it's dark purple or it will kill the plants, found out the hard way.

The only way i've found to really get rid of all the snails is take the tank outside and give it a good scrub with the hose and replace the gravel. Not sure how i'm gonna do this with my 4-foot tank tho :|

Have a similar snail problem. Small dark brown suckers. Moved a clown loach into that tank and cut down on the food intake. BUT when I cleaned my filter this weekend it was loaded. there is always food in the filter and the loach can't get to them. Any great ideas for this one? Yes I rinsed all the parts of the filter out and its a fluval 304. HELP PLEASE.

Not sure about the shark wayne, i know they are scavengers so they possibly will, i've had a few sharks but never in a tank with snails.

dana307, if your tank has been cycled for a while i recommend taking out the filter and leaving it out for a while, float the filter material in the water (so the good bacteria doesn't die). This will allow the clown loach access to "all" the snails, goodluck,

Luca.

Clown loaches get big, but very slowly... Mine is an absolute pig (and has a tank full of MTS to snack on at will) and has hardly grown in the 8 months we've had him...

And he eats well too, blood worms, shrimp pellets (all to himself, I use a straw to put them right in his 'hideout') various varieties of flake, Krill... And I'm pretty sure he's been making a dent in my amano shrimp population...

Ok it will be difficult to do the overhaul then, make sure you got a day free if you try it. This is where i take it outside and scrub the whole thing out and replace the stones, you could bag up the plants and float them in another plant if you have any, leave 'em some water. Alternatively you could try a snail-rid product, i have one, works sometimes, pretty unimpressed with it but it was a cheapo

goodluck

ahhh i see....my snail-rid says "safe for fish and plants" or something, so look for a product like that. In most cases, the product won't actually "kill" the snail, it will just put a chemical into the water that the snail hates and will climb up the side to escape the water, this is when you swoop in and remove them with a net or your hands.

maybe start a thread called "snail-rid products" to see who's had success with what products.

ciao for now
