Stupid question - but needs an answer!

Its definately supposed to be pronounced "bet-ta", but I was raised to say "bay-ta" and haven't found the need to change my pronounciation. After all, none of you can hear how I pronounce it, right 
. Actually, when I go to pick up my bettas from the breeder I kind of slur my pronounciation to keep from sounding like a dork, lol.
