Are you guys even cycling your tanks for all of these GBRs floating around amongst you??? It sounds like you are playing russian roulette with your fish, popping them in one tank with aggressive fish, then popping them in another when one of them dies, taking them back to the store for a refund when it was YOUR mistake and lack of research that killed it. I don't look fondly upon people that partake in such animal cruelty. Take back the fish you don't know how to take care of properly and get some danios until you can figure out how to maintain a tank.

Let's see here...from my understandings from this thread...one of you apparently put some GBRs in with some sort of aggressive cichlid, where it apparently got nipped and beaten up to the point where it was lying in the gravel breathing heavily, and presumedly died. Another one of you plunged a bunch of unsuited new fish into an uncycled tank. Another one apparently has a bag of tiger barbs they are looking to pawn off on someone else. Someone is going to take back a dead fish THEY killed and get a refund since they couldn't be bothered to do their own research on fish compatibility...I can't really keep track of all the no-no's going on here. If you guys have any clue as to what you are doing, then start doing it, otherwise this is unexcusable behavior. Living creatures deserve to be treated better than this.

OK, I don't want to stir anyhting up, so I'll just keep this simple, I agree whole heartedly with MissFishy. I think you guys are not seeing what you have here. This site alone (not even going to factor in all the other resources on the net) is providing you with the information (or means to get the information) you need to avoid situations like these. I know you are excited about getting nice, new fish for your tanks, but take your time, ask questions, look things up, and work slowly and you and your fish will be alot happier with the results.

Think of MFT as a knowledgebase, not a chat room for people who like fish (that's why we have the seperate chatroom) you guys need to use the resources that are sitting here in front of you for your own (and your fish's) benifits.

1. As I said, your friend didn't take the time to do his own fish compatibility research. His ignorance is what killed the fish, I have NEVER heard of a fish store that sincerely had the fishes best interest in mind while trying to sell them to you. I don't take any advice from a salesperson as fact, especially when living things are involved.

2. Your levels may be fine at the moment, you just added the fish a couple days ago, but they will soon be spiking with all those fish in there. I think your GBRs will be the first to go, they aren't really beginners fish. Followed by the angel. Maybe your severum will live through the cycle, I don't know much about them. Your pleco doesn't have any algae to eat unless you are feeding him since this is a new tank with no algae. Either way, the severum will get large and messy, and will severely limit any other fish you can put in there with him since he might try to snack on them.

These fish are depending on you guys for their very lives, and you are just playing games? Surely your mother is an adult and if you show her some information on fish tanks she would come to her senses. I thought this was your tank to take care of? If it isn't yours, get your mother on here ASAP so she can learn a thing or two. It's so disappointing to waste your time trying to teach someone about fishlessly cycling and what fish would go well together, just to have them come back and say all the random fish they bought without bothering to cycle the tank. It's very frustrating and disappointing, why bother doing the research on here in the first place just to ignore everything we said?

im sorry i should of asked you guys (and girls) befor i stupidly pu the GBRs in the 29 but the guy said that they would be fine and he knows that i do have a 12 gallon tank. but he said thy would be better in the 29. i guess he was wrong....

well today i took back all of my cichlids (Asside from my GBR) and got some money for them. got a replacement for the killed GBR and got 4 hatchet fish.

i hope that i could break the rule for the 3 fish at once time because i got rid of 3 big fish and got 6 smaller fish.
