I've only kept calvus, but from what I've read there isn't much difference in the two. Personaly, I just like the way the calvus seem more streamlined than the comps do. So pick which ever one you want, in this setup they are interchangeable.
The multies make a great starting shellie because of their personality and ease of care. You don't have to intervine much to get these guys breeding, so that's another big plus. When dealing with people who don't understand a lot or care to know alot about fish, they are always amazed by baby fish.
I'll have to ponder some on your other tanks. But really just at a glance several of those would be able to fit into the 29 gallon once the clown was moved out.
