Sushi...hmm...reminds me of Greek intiation...

Anyway, something just reminded me, I think it was the sushi comment. When I was an environmental instructor, one of my fellow coworkers gave us a survival course on how to live if stranded in the woods or near a beach per say. There is a lot more edible stuff out there than one would think. We had something called the "Secrete Silverside Society" back there. What we would do is wade out at night when the Silversides were "sleeping". If you caught one with your bare hands, which is pretty easy once you get the knack, you had to swallow it, still wriggling. They actually go down pretty easily, taste a little salty though. I think my record was 15 in one day because all the kids kept saying "illl, gross, do that again!"

Yeah, and I did swallow a goldfish for my sorority. Really is was more to impress the frat guys there at the time. It was a little one, and I chased him down with a lager.

And I've eaten earthworms, that was the worst, I don't think I could eat those again. Freeze dried crickets are a bit dusty, but fresh ones with garlic butter sauce (lots of garlic) are okay. Oh, and I just love sushi!

I've eaten polywogs, termites and ants on dares. ie. "I'll eat one if you do. Damn. He ate it. Didn't think that was going to happen."
After watching Jackass I've been thinking of doing stupid things more often. I just barely backed out of sniffing a line of crushed cinnamon altoid yesterday. I also jumped out of a car and chased a skunk with wooden practice sword the other night. I probably could have caught it but my eyes started burning from the chemicals in the air and I thought about how stupid it would be.

NEVER..I have had lots of pets over the year. I even bred hamsters for snakes once. My thoughts are if you name the pet and take care of them they are off limits. If they are feeders then it's ok..because you don't get ur heart attatched as easily.

Well I saw this fish related news story the other night. It was about Asian people buying some sort of carp like fish from their local market. Now apparently the custom is to buy 2 of these fish and release one into the wild and eat the other for dinner. This story was focusing specifically on Toronto Canada and the problem with this custom is that when these fish get released into the wild, they end up causing havoc on the local eco system by eating all of the local food supply that other local fish need to survive on. It is believed that this is not helping the great lakes since they are already in trouble due to other foreign species of fish etc that are also wreaking havoc on local habitats and waterlife. An example of one of these foreign species would be the zebra muscle that has imported itself here into Canada by latching onto cargo ships and so on. Not good at all.

Sheesh. This is the topic that just wouldn't die! Ok, I'll throw in my two cents. Carp and goldfish are very boney. There isn't much meat on them and after they reach a large size they take on a flavor reminecent of the mud they get their food from. Never the less many people eat them whether out of necessity or cultural preference. My father used to bow fish for carp, which are considered a nusence in our area. They prey on the eggs and fry of gamefish such as bass trout and salmon. For that reason there is no limit on their take, the more the better. In fact there is even a bounty on suckerfish in some water systems. We have gone out to local lakes in the spring time and filled multiple garbage cans (the size oscar the grouch lives in) with carp we have shot. Most of the time there are people waiting at the docks for us to come in. There are a lot of immagrants from Laos in my area and a few African Americans that use the fish. Each individual usally takes as many carp as they can carry. Its kind of funny to see a four year old girl carrying a 30 pound carp home for dinner. I'm glad they get use out of them. If no one is there to take the fish we run them through a wood chipper and use them as fertalizer in our garden or freeze the slurry for use as shark chum when we go to the ocean to shoot sharks. Shark steaks are tasty. We've never tried using their fins for soup, but I hear that is done as well. When I was in the Navy stationed in Orlando Florida there were Tilapia, Nile Perch, in the drainage ditches. I shot some with my bow, gave some to some boys who were fishing nearby, and took one home to try it. It tasted like crud.

i love this topic and i hope it will never die. i like to see my small question still hasnt died even wen i didnt expect it.

lol it only dies when we lose interest in this topic and i think this is a very interesting discussion lol i dunno if i ever tried carp knowin my family probally did but my mom perfers gettin some kind of fish dun remember what it was but also my mom makes fish head soup with large red snappers she gets at the seafood market pretty cheap usually give the guy 20 bucks and they give my mom a big box full of it, i'm not a fan of it it stinks but don't tastes to bad, i'm more of a sushi and fried fish person now to think of it i've had carp it is really boney thats one of the reasons i don't like it i use to eat it as a lil kid and choke on the bones

hey vyache isn't it illegal to hunt sharks? i love sharkfin soup i dunno what ingredients is in it but when i goto a families wedding celebration they traditionally serve that and it's really good, i know it's wrong with all the illegal shark poaching but u know even Adam ate the forbidden fruit...(let not get to debative about this now)
