That HI Q site lists a couple of forums that are test running the system but neither is thoroughly updated.

Obviousoly Hi Q shoulod have come here.

More over....send me a system now and I would detail thoroughly what my experience is...and we know how I like to post :)

What is the direction of the water flow?

Is it in the tower and then comes up and out of the gravel... or sucks water down through the gravel, then expels through the twoers?

I think its in the tower, out the gravel but thats only a guess.;..

TAL, We don't like making people cry. It's just not our thing... So we've thought about it and we're going to send you one too. Please PM me your e-mail address and I will contact you in the next couple of days.

The water is sucked in and cycled through the towers then pushed out the bottom through the tubes under the gravel. Air is sucked in through the air tube and then is also cycled through the tower by the sucked in water and comes out of a hole in the top back corner of the tower.

Each tower contains bio balls and about 14oz of bacteria culturing mineral blocks. It's in these towers that nitrates are converted into nitrogen gas.

Raynecki the Eco Magic does not work with sand.

You can read about it here. Zero Water Change Technology - Hi-Q USA Zero Water Change Aquarium System

We've all seen "miracle cures" on the market and I must say none of them work and to the best of my knowledge none of the companies with said products has offered to let hobbyist try them out in a public format like this. It's one of the reasons you see so many being skeptical. I do commend you on doing this and actually am interested in seeing some numbers. If it can keep nitrates down, I can think if several tank applications like say a cichlid tank where this would be well worth the cost of the system.

Now wait a minute! You're giving away free things to people who cry?!?! It's entirely not fair, people should be giving to the poor who are still paying off their debts on their tank (me), not to the rich who just ordered another 75g (TAL)!!! :p
Well, of course I'm just kidding. Way to go TAL!

Btw, does one have to buy all these extra nitrate pouches, bio balls, etc. and change them out periodically? Or is this a system that you set up and never deal with again?

Now Kissy, no one likes a beggar. :p

Just out of curiosity do you know what the other products were?
Yep. I sure do. They have come and gone over the years. Many are no longer available because they just didn't work. That or they never marketed the product well enough to over come skepticism. The products range from chemical additives to filters to filter media. Later I'll post you some links from what I know of that's available now. It going to take some digging so I'll have to do it this evening when I have more time.

I'm sure some others can pull some links if they feel like looking for them.

Looks like TAL may luck out...I am personally skeptical of this all the way around, from anyone here getting a free system to it working, hopefully I am wrong on both counts. If it works I would be interested in purchasing one for my tanks, this system would definately come in handy for those of us that have to forgo water changes for weeks at a time due to other obligations that take us away from home.

Looking forward to hearing how they are. I think we all, as classic fishkeepers not ever seeing anything like this, are skeptical. Its hard to be a classic, normal water change for anything. Thats why i'm looking forward to these results.

Letting some people try them out speaks volumes for the company already.

Acquamarine Microbial Products - Natural Solutions

This one is an additive that is supposed to grow the right nitrifying bacteria in your present filter.

Algone, for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and algae control in the marine aquarium.

This one amazingly takes care of nitrate and algae. If you read all that no where does it say that is specifically absorbs nitrate. And it doesn’t really tell you how it works.

BioRocker

The bio-rocker uses this media Aquarium Biological Filtration Media: ReefresH2O BioMedia And supposedly will grow the right bacteria, but the problem is it takes very little bio-film or mulm to clog the bio-slab. I’ve personally tried the thin slab media for HOBs and the small cubes for canisters and nitrates never went down.

The filter used to be offered at DrFos n Smith but isn’t anymore. If you can find one you can expect to pay about 350-400 bucks for one and still need to purchase return lines and a pump.

Nitrate Reductor

This thing is kinda promising but it’s way over priced for what is pretty much nothing more than a very small canister filter. I don’t know anyone who has shelled out that much cash to test this piece of equipment. I’m sure there are those who have bought it but I sure don’t know of any.

Aquarium Maintenance: Liquid Gravel Vac

This one is one of my favorites. I thought live bacteria had to be refrigerated.

Freshwater Aquariums Bacterial Additive: Tropical Science Nitromax Fresh

Same thing as before.

Waste Control Organic Waste Eliminator Aquarium Clarifier

This one causes an ammonia spike!

There are probably more but like I said a whole lot of them can't be found on the net anymore. They went poof!
