I'd really love to show off a picture of my tank, I spend about an hour each day just staring at the tank! I however cannot, until after May, when I leave Ishar's tank in the dust during the POTM contest. :D Haha, just kidding. It's fun trash-talking Ishar. :p

I'm thinking I want to change the stock up a bit after I come back home when the summer is over. I want to do a 'school' of about 5 discus, and keep my bolivian and german rams, and my bn pleco. I want to get rid of the tetras...

I have about 4 months to think it over. :)

haha you can keep on dreaming but in the end, whether the votes show it or not, we both know who has the better tank, and his name is not emmanuelchavez ;) hahaha

It would be nice to see some discus in there- but I would personally rather you have some interesting school- like one big school of small fish of a species no one usually has. Your tank looks so nice and the plant are so nicely laid out. I find that discus are so big they take up too much visual room and the plants get lost behind the discus. That is just me though :)

Sorry no one was much help with your big questions. I didn't notice them get posted to try to help you out :(. Hope it all ends up on though.

Haha, how about a middle ground? I'm sure if we co-scaped a tank, it would rule the planted tank world!!! *thumbsups

I know I wanted a reef tank, and I have a protein skimmer and a refractometer already, but I may just put it off till after I finish grad school.... in about 3-4 years : /

Instead, I want another BIG lush, planted tank, with a big school of small fish, while I get Discus in this one. I see what you mean bout Discus though. I think it would work much better if I had a 400g tank or so.

No problem about my questions. I always find an answer or solution. I figure, I'm a scientist, if I can't think of an answer myself, then there's no hope! *crazysmil

get a big school of rainbows. They are super colorful, semi good size compared to tetras and still school.

I think you guys haven't realized that I entered yesterday... And it only took me 5 minutes to get my picture which obviously means my tank looks so awesome I didn't need anytime to get a great shot.

Another trash talker, eh?
Two more days before I can start the butt-kicking. :D

I should've written down what settings I used to take pictures of my tanks... now it's going to take me a long time to figure them out again.

Excel works against algae? I don't use it in my tank cause of the vals you gave me but I use it in my 16 gallon. Right now I combat a mutant strain of green slime algae and some green spot algae on me front glass. I'm hoping the CO2 will increase plant growth and use of extra nutrients that the algae is taking advantage of.

If your green slime algae is cyanobacteria, they can thrive in low-nutrient environments (ie. low nitrates - 5 ppm).

Yeah, excel has been known to kill some algaes and keep some at bay. It has the tendency of melting some of my plants, so I only use it on my 100g, where the plants that can handle the excel are kept.

Agh! I'm afraid of what can happen in my tank during the summer.
We've been experiencing temperatures in the 80s here in Houston, which isn't too bad. We've actually been keeping the AC on day and night on 78/79 (I need a digital thermostat!).

Since this tank is still in my old room, which was a garage converted into a bedroom by the previous owner, the central A/C unit isn't as effective as keeping that room as cool, not to mention, the laundry room is next door, so it heats up more.

My thermometer keeps reading temperatures as high as 82.6 and as low as 81.7 throughout the entire day and night. I don't mind these temps at all, they're great tropical temps in my opinion, but I'm afraid some of my plants, like the stargrass, will start to melt if the temperatures reach beyond 85 in the summer.

I'm going to see if maybe a couple of fans will keep the tank cooler (at the most mid 80s)... a chiller is definitely not an option.

how often you gotta top off ?
in your bedroom ?
Gee that doesnt sound right ! LOL
ehh i leave it ! LOL
Haha, the tanks in my current bedroom I have to top off between 2-3 times a week, but they have no cover. My 29g is in there, but it has a top. I don't really have to top it off. I do that during water changes once a week.

The 100g in my old bedroom, I have to top off 1ce a week. If I add the fans, I'd have to top if off more often.

Ouch! Today my tank read 85F. I did my weekly w/c and it brought it down to 81.5. I decided to use the thermometer from my 20g tank to see if maybe the thermometer was acting trippy and showing higher temps than it is. There's a 2 degree difference. The other thermometer read 79.8. I've gotta get my fans pronto, the stargrass has really been suffering.

I'm thinking of pulling out the Ludwigia Glandulosa, the tops looks great, but the bottoms keep losing leaves. I'll try it again sometime down the future, when I have stronger lights.
