His blue is more sky blue than those pictures show. He's a little ham. I personally love the halfmoons the most out of any tail variation. I have had veiltails, crowntails, delta tails and halfmoons. The only variation I haven't had is plakat (trying to remedy that, though!). But out of the variations I've had, halfmoons are by far my favorite.

In his tank it's play sand right now, but sometime this week I'm going to be redoing his tank (FINALLY!) and it's going to have pool filter sand because it's SO much easier to deal with than play sand. Easier to clean, easier to work with when you're scaping, doesn't billow up like play sand can. If you want to see what it looks like, take a look at my 55gal "epic fail" thread. I put up pics of my 55gal redone with 50lbs of PFS and it looks INCREDIBLE (if I do say so myself).

I think Tristan may have been a little older and the stress of the 55gal going Chernobyl, then playing "musical tanks" was just too much for him.

I have had veiltail, crowntail and now a halfmoon. We're on a super tight budget, especially with the fall semester coming so spending the $14 on a fish was beyond me, but I did it ha. I absolutely am in love with the halfmoons.

I'll check that out! I ended up buying some play sand today, I searched everywhere for pool filter sand and no one had a clue. So I gave up and got the play sand because I really wanted it. It's taking a bit to clear up, but should be all right for now. It can't be any worse than trying to clean my 36 gallon -- but that's more so because of the plants than the substrate.

*off to check your thread!*

I finally had to order the PFS from a local hardware store. I found it on their website, but knew they didn't carry it in-store because I'd already been in there to ask. The only place that had any was the only pool supply place in town and they wanted like $20 for a 20lbs bag. I got my two 50lbs bags for a total of $18 ordering it through Do-It-Best hardware and they shipped it to the store for free, so all I had to do was pick it up. It was $8 per bag plus tax.

I love the name you gave your betta! That is so freakin' adorable!

Very nice! I probably should have done something like that but sometimes I'm impatient and impulsive. :( But the play sand was $4.50 for 50lbs, so it won't be a big loss if I change it again in the future.

My friend totally came up with it then someone suggested patriot because he is red/white/blue and that is cute too...now I'm stuck. And Santiago kind of sounds like San Diego

lol! Most of my bettas are named after Twilight characters. It started as a joke with my niece and just kind of snowballed from there. At one point, I had a betta named after every major Twilight character. Right now I have Edward, Amun, Jasper, Laurent, Esme, Rosalie, Aidan, Loki, Dragon and Thomas (my son's betta). My featherfin cat, Alistair, is also named after a Twilight character (from the Breaking Dawn book).
