I can get by on my student loan too, just about, I'd just like the extra cash in my pocket. I'm not looking forward to paying it back.. I got the full amount of everything haha!

I was hoping to get around £70 for it I think, it went for £60 on ebay I think and obviously didn't sell but I think it's worth so much more than that, it's a big tank!

I know you are busy with college, but miss your posts. Have you thought about advertising your aquarium on Craig's list. I know you couldn't find any there, but maybe other people are looking and so they would find yours. I think here they are listed under General or Pets - not sure right now. Will let you know if I find out differently.

I've just not felt very inspired to post of late! Lots of the same questions coming up on the forum.. not much I feel I can really get my teeth into. Of course, most of my posts went on Fishman's many many threads and since I'm now not posting advise to deaf ears (or blind eyes) I haven't had to post much. I'll probably be back with a vengeance when it livens up :)

In terms of my 9 gallon, it's still empty, I never got any contact from the buyer of my 67g so that's still sat at home. I might relist it tonight. Either way, the setting up of my tank relies on 2 things, whichever comes first - either the sale of my tank, or my (long awaited) inheritance now my grandparents' house is finally on the market. So it could take a while but I do hope to have it set up asap, it's just collecting dust atm!

On 09/27/10 I started a thread on Tetra Safe Start. It was followed by a certain amount of controversy as to whether I should have copied it off of Google. (I thought saying that was the source was adequate). One of the moderators on Fishlore had written to Tetra and got a very detail response to all the questions. Because so many people were talking about it, I thought they might like to read it, but I wasn't promoting the product. As far as using it myself - I don't know - it is $22 plus tax here. I did read a lot of the comments on Fishlore and mostly I found that those that aren't success apparently aren't following directions. Anyway you might like to read the two letters which you can find on my "Tetra Safe Start" thread - it was still on this page this AM. Have a good day!

Reminds me of myself way back when:

That was a long time ago. Immature me haha... now it embarasses me to think I even *bothered* posting that
Haha, we were all like that once. Just most, like you and I, tend to grow out of it!

Anyway a quick update.. Well not so much an update, there's nothing to update on. Right at the start I said I planned to have my first fish in by now, needless to say that hasn't happened. I still have no heater, thermometer, substrate etc etc, and the tank is STILL sat empty on the dresser. It's quite depressing to look at really!

Of course I have lots to think about here and it mainly revolves around the money issue, I've been a tad frivolous of late so there hasn't been any money spare to set up. However, Christmas is fast approaching and I turn 20 in mid January, I see this as the perfect opportunity to get supplies/money for supplies. That way I can get it set up even if it's just planted for a while.

I will then leave it just planted or with some cheap, "disposable" (i.e, common and easy to return to my LFS) fish, maybe some form of small tetra or WCMMs perhaps. Then when I move house again next september (our house just isn't up to scratch and we hate our landlord.. though I love my room!) it's easier to dismantle if there's not space for it in the new house (though space for a tank will be high on my agenda when looking for a new house). This also gives me a chance to save up for the fish which I reckon, as I'll be having them delivered to my door, will be the most expensive part.

So the plan is still the same, it's just being delayed somewhat! :(

It's a great tank isn't it! The make's biopro, but I'm not sure if it's just a limited range of hand-built tanks rather than a big make like juwel. I think you might only be able to get it in the UK.. I got it on ebay, where are you based? I do think there are a few different makes with similar designs around.

You mentioned overflowing your pond and loosing goldfish. Reminds me of when we had horses and used old bathtubs for watering. We kept goldfish in them to eat mosquito larva. I'd send the kids up to clean them, they would bail, then the two of them would manage to tip them and dump the rest of the water out - and forget about the fish. A couple of days later, I'd go to water and there were no fish! I'd empty the tank (feeling sorry about what they'd done) and when I'd tip it over, there would be the gold fish in the muck under the tank. I'd gather them up, run some water back in the tank and lo and behold, they would be fine! Seems gold fish can survive a certain amount of trauma. In spite of my lecturing, it happened more than once.

Finding them would be one thing - for me it was the picking up part. I overflowed my little back yard pond and a couple goldfish swam out. I have had chemo and the tips of my fingers don't work well at all. I couldn't tell when I had ahold of them. It was a real challenge. The other day I accidentally dropped an oto off a decoration I took out of the tank to clean. He was on the kitchen counter fortunately, but absolutely impossible for me to pick up. I finally grabbed a table knife and carefully slid it under him, he grabbed on and I was able to lift him back in the tank.
