Hey everybody! I just got a farlowella catfish at my local Petco. If anyone has had experience with these cool looking fish, I would love to hear it.
Thanks a lot, Charlie

I have a female Farlowella vittata currently, in a 40 gallon breeder. She eats algae film from the glass during the night and hangs out on and under driftwood during the day.

Cool. Of course since I got mine at Petco, they didn't say what kind of farlowella it was; they just called it a farlowella catfish. I hear that they are all pretty similar though.

It took a ton of photos and searching online to find out what species she was. We were calling her Farley, but when we found out he's a she, she became Ella. Not very creative huh? lol

i know they can be kinda finiky fish. my lfs had several succesful hatches from them but the store lost power for a day and all of them died. all the other fish in the tank lived. the only thing they can figure is they need alot of disolved O2 in the tank. other then that i don't realy have any more info for u.

Ok thanks. When I got home today, I couldn't find it. I though maybe it had jumped out of the tank but I still couldn't find it. Turns out it was right on a plant the whole time. They really can camaflouge well!

Ella disappears for 3 or 4 days at a time in my planted tank. I'd love to find a male, but all the store has gotten in are other females. Someday I hope :) Ella will have her boyfriend join her.

Why not just add an ie and make it more feminine? Farlie would work I think. Kind of like the tarantula my X husband bought me once. He thought he would be cute and call the spider Peter, and turns out he was a she, so we called her Parker lol.

Hubby wanted a male also, so Farley will be the male's name when we find a male. The males we've seen at several other stores are other species. If we ever find a male/female in the same store of whatever species of Farlowella, we'll get the pair, and move Ella to another tank.

A LFS that specializes in cichlids should start shipping in from South America soon and when they get in any Farlowellas we'll go look.

We have a male cat name Harley too! Ha!
