I don't have any new pictures yet, but this is pretty much what the things I'm talking about look like (only smaller). When I turned off all the lights and used the blue LED's I have on the tank the center of the things glowed orange a little bit, no clue if that helps in identifying them at all.

I've found 10+ of them on the rock now. A few of them defiantly look like the one in the picture while the others have much finer tentacles. I'm going to assume they are all aiptasia and juice them before it gets even worse!

I would just take the rock out and give it a good scrubbing, but there are a ton (I've found even more since last night) of feather dusters on it as well that I'd rather not kill.

i think scrubbing it would make it worse since they can regrow from just about anything but I'd juice them asap if there not close to feather dusters if they are take a little kalk mix and add a little water then it should turn into a sticky blob then just rub it on the aiptasia.

As they are so small you could also try getting a peppermint shrimp that would eat them as they will eat them when they are small like that. Just make sure you get real peppermint shrimp and not the camel backs that some lfs' pass off as peppermints.

I wont be able to add any thing to the tank for some time, I just put the live rock in yesterday >_< How fast does aiptasia grow/spread?

I was able to take some better pictures with my digital camcorder of all things.

My prized feather duster ^_^

Aiptasia!?

I juiced most of the aiptasia last night, but I missed a few and some others seem to have survived. Round two starts tonight though ^^

I seem to have a lot of evaporation (~1/4g a day) which is way more than I was expecting. Looks like I need to finish the auto top off system this weekend. Would a glass cover be all that bad since I have my skimmer sucking in fresh air?

The live rock has been in since Sunday and so far ammonia is ~.25 and nitrite/nitrate is 0. gogo cycle!

I also got my 20" orbit. I'll post some pictures of the tank a little later tonight.

Five day cycle!?

I know they can be short, but I was expecting a longer cycle time. I was told the rock was fully cured when I bought it, but it didn't look it to me. First time buying it though so I don't have anything to compare it to. It wasn't smelly at all and most of the stuff in their tanks had coraline and what not growing on it.

I tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tonight when I got home and they are all reading zero (Ammonia was at .25 last night). I tested twice to be sure and I will probably take in a water sample to my LFS for testing tomorrow after work if I get off in time.

I noticed brown diatom on my live rock the day after I put it in the tank and in the past two days I've noticed a lot of hair algae growth (there was a lot on a few pieces when I got it, but they are noticeably longer now) as well as some other types of unknown algae that have taken off all the sudden (they look like little seed sprouts so I can't ID them yet). There is no brown on my glass or substrate as of yet. The coraline has also brightened up a bit and I think, but am not sure, that is starting to spread (might just be the brighting I'm noticing though).

Did I just get lucky or am I missing something?

5 days is a short time to have it cycled. Wait a day or two just be on the safe side. Mine started with levels off the roof. Tested the next day and wow they all went down fast. Algae yes you will get some. Clean up crew should be able to handle it. When do you plan on getting it?

Two updates:

1) I put a glass cover on my tank last night after topping it off and only had to add a couple of cups when I got home tonight.

2) Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates still read 0. The brown diatoms have increased about 25% just since last night and I see definite new coraline algae in a few spots.

I'm very tempted to start adding my CUC tomorrow afternoon...

Mine are starting to multiply like little rabbits. There are now three in a small area where I tried to kill what used to be one and I found two large ones hiding on the backside of a rock I can't get to.

I might pick up a peppermint shrimp or two today, but my dilemma is that I want a skunk cleaner eventually. I'll have to worry about that later though I suppose.

If I end up getting some CUC today I'll try to post some pictures of the tank.

Well I ended up getting part of my CUC today. The store I went to didn't have much for snails so I'll have to get them elsewhere.

Here is what I got today around 4pm PST:

Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab x2
Emerald Mithrax Crab
Two new pieces of live rock

I drip acclimated everything for an hour to be safe. The placed the emerald on a rock where he stayed for about five minuets, then he went to eating and hasn't stopped yet. The two hermits hit the ground running and went straight for a rock and started munching on the algae. The shrimp has been swimming around picking at stuff and seems to be doing well. Two of its antenna are broken a little, will they come back after its first molt?

As you can see in the pictures I'm still having a micro bubble problem with my Prizm Skimmer, any advice other than waiting it out and hoping it breaks in some more?
