No-ones doubting your experience, I think hes just standing his ground and going by aqadvisor, which we know isnt the best site for research and have found many complications with it myself. lets just remember that this forum is for discussion and advise, lets not begin to argue and get pis*ed off with eachother please.

Ok would it be better to get Scooter a bumble bee cichlid to go with him and 1 rainbow shark or just The Brown Knife def not both all i want now is him a Bumble bee and if its at all possible a Knife or Rainbow, when i added the rainbow on Aquadivsor it put the Ph range from 7.6-8.5 i think but the knife dropped it alot, so can i keep the rainbow with him and a bumble bee?

I wouldn't add any more mbunas personally, not until you can devote the tank and parameters entirely to them. I also wouldn't keep the rainbow at that high a pH (8+).

Do you not worry, having seen what the acei did to your paradise fish etc that he'd be extremely aggressive with the new fish? I know you're under pressure from your mom but it sounds like you're pretty set yourself on putting these fish together? I honestly think if this is the mix of fish YOU WANT you should seriously consider switching Scooter for a pair of kribensis.

What exactly do you want from the tank? It may be easier to advise based on that. What are your mom's conditions regarding your tanks?

I have to get dad to take me to get all my stuff mostly so i can get what i want for the tank. I want a tank where the fish arent gonna hide 24/7. I can devote the tank to Mbuna's but i dont want it over stocked, and id like a sand bottom but idk if i can do that.

Ok that's simple enough. The list you gave me that I said would work for your proposed 30 would definitely work in the 55, with even more. I doubt they'd hide much either, they tend to be quite confident in the right conditions (right parameters, low-ish lighting, lots of cover). Sand-bottomed tanks are great for mbunas, why don't you think it'd work?

Personally I'd go one or the other. Only mbunas, or only fish suitable to the requirements of the other fish you've mentioned.

stay well clear of Melanochromis Auratus, Pseudotropheus Lombardoi (Kenyi) and Pseudotropheus Demasoni. They are sold in many lfs' and are renound for their colourful bodies. But they are extremly agressive .

Are you putting the cart before the horse? Is the person on Craig's list going to hold the tank for you until you get the money in a month or so? And aren't some of those fish being discussed rather spendy?

How about a couple of yellow labs and zebras too? If you keep a good mix the you'll have the best variety of colours. And in a 55, a good sized tank for a mbuna setup, you've definitely got the space. Have a good read on how to set one up/stock it and you should be set. Just remember, you won't be able to keep anything other than mbuna cichlids in the tank, are you definitely set on this? Because I know how much you like an unusual variety of fish.

And jamiejay, where abouts are you from? I know what you mean, I've tried using craigslist over here too and found nothing on it. If I want a cheap deal I generally use ebay :)

Tbh I've not bought fish for years now, as my sig says I've been on a bit of a hiatus til I finish my degree and have the time/money to keep one going, and before then I always used my LFS. Whether I carry on doing that depends, they seemed to be slipping in quality and increasing in price recently..
