I used to dive a lot back then, and would catch fish (nets only, no chemicals ever) and traded them in for store credit. I didn't have to pay for my first reef tank set-up (110 gallons with 40gallon sump). Stand, lights, tank, pumps, heater, powerheads, etc. Fun back then!

i got a 55 gallon as well and 20 of the neon tetras all died because the filter is too strong for them even though it was a reg basic that came in the kit, switched to 15 cardinals and 10 large black neons no problems at all plus they swim separately in close groups

well yeah but with living in the midwest thats the only thing i can do legally lol. rough fish are the only ones we can legally keep in our tanks unless we have a valid fishing license and the sport fish we keep are of legal size limit. so say i want a large mouth bass it has to be over 14 inches or say a crappie needs to be at least 12 inches. walleye would be even harder. 14-21 inches would be legal but 21 to 27 would be illegal and 1 over 27 would be legal. have to go by state fishing regs to legally keep the fish in a tank. my green sunfish is a rough fish so no length or creel limit and no fishing license is needed.

that was worth the cost yes but i'm saying here in illinois it's not worth it and i might as well get a commercial fishing license and just sell for food and not tanks lol. thats what sucks about north american waters. we don't realy have many pretty fish that people will buy for a fish tank. prettiest fish i know of that would work in a 30 gallon or larger is a pumpkinseed which is in my profile photo. but people want nearly every kinda ocean fish lol

don't have them here that i know of. i'd love a greyling. think those are realy cool looking fish but they require realy cold water and also need a stream like environment.

We caught them in Iowa all the time, as did a buddy of mine in northern PA. They can live in tropical water but prefer no heat (much like goldfish).

They like flow, but that can be done with a submerged powerhead very easily. My PA buddy used to breed them in a kiddy pool in his back yard, with no flow at all, just a few airstones for some water movement.

well an update on the fish is good. have not had a loss yet. and all my fish seem to be settled in. neons are spread out and not clustered together scared. glass cats are roaming aorund slowly without a care in the world lol. cories are playing and the panda garra are moving around erraticly as they should lol. but my lfs is going to order me a male female pair of double red apistos. anyone know if they are good with the fish that i have in my 55? if not i will put them in my 20 for now.
