You never know. People say rams won't spawn in water that hard as well...but if you get eggs then obviously its possible. While pH affects the process and plays a role, it won't 100% definently kill the eggs/babies or prevent them from hatching....unless its just like a huuuuge gap from the recommended level. The eating of eggs doesn't have anything to do with the water, its just a cichlids nature.

You won't get anything out of a wild ram in water like that, but one from your LFS....you never know. Its lived in that water all its life.

Maybe its me just hating pH. I don't like how its a strict rule and guidline for everything when fish are really really adaptable.

Yeah true about the fish being highly adaptable, but im not sure if its the same with the eggs?

Anyway, the male is a bit more mature now, and he is playing more part in the cleaning and showing off to the female part :p more so than what he was doing the times before.

Today he has been cleaning the slate, flaring at the female and chasing off the platies, when before he was doing NOTHING. He just let the female lay the eggs, follow behind her and eat them. Although he did guard and eat them at the same time :p.
If the male decides he is going to fertilise them this time, i will be very happy :D

Thanks everyone :)

i left a lamp on in the room, but when i got up to check the eggs....they were all gone :(
anyone know why they ate them?
before lights out they were really protective and when i put my finger in the tank, they would both come and nip me.
ah well, i suppose its better luck next time.
