lol

a warning on cherry shrimp, they will constantly be hunted by both catfish and bettas. I have kept them with a female betta and her favorite past time would be to dive into a thick mat of dwarf sag and try to catch the cherry shrimp hiding in there. she was successful every once in a while, but she did not always eat them after she killed them >_<

OC How in the earth's blue moon did you tell who i was? Btw to everyone who hasnt noticed Im Fishman1995. I told yaw you'd never see Fishman again because i wanted a new start, so i made this account. I wanted to show you all that you had the wrong idea for me so i had my uncle build me a 30 gallon tank yesterday. And OC i have decided to not do a soririty and put my 3 cherry barbs in there and add 3 more female cherrys, and yes il be getting a snail for the tank but im leaving the platy's in the 5.5 gallon unless yaw think that is still to much overcrowding? And i decided last night im doing a pair of Kribs, 5 Glass Catfish, 2 Oto's, and my 6 cherry barbs and a snail. Mom kinda "helped me" with it, or more like locked it in and wont let me change haha. She kinda figured id try to overcrowd this tank so she made me lock it in. And yaw please dont stop helping me just cause you know who i am now cause i have changed

Yeah, we figured that it was you, Fishman.
Well, even though you likely won't listen, I'll give you my advice. Two platies in a 5.5 gallon is way too overstocked. Leave your betta in that tank. Leave your other betta in the 2.5 gallon and don't add any tankmates for him because a 2.5 is too small for anything else. I wouldn't add otos because they need a constant supply of algae and fresh vegetables. Also, they need an established and cycled tank that has been set up for several months. Otos need perfect water parameters and are not good for young tanks.
I'm unsure about the kribs and glass catfish because I've never kept them before. What I can tell you is if the glass catfish grow 4 inches or larger, keeping two is probably not a good idea. Larger catfish need a lot of space to explore and a 30 gallon would probably not be big enough unless it's a very long, shallow tank.

Little Tank, why plug up the holes in the flowerpots? Just curious 'cause I have been worried about using them because there is no "escape hatch? I liked your discussion on pH and I wish more people would read it. Since starting here I have notice that is the test most newcomers seem concerned about, yet one of the first things I was told was don't try to change it (under most circumstances)
Bettas are extremely curious and will try to swim through the tiny holes in the bottom of the flower pots. I've seen enough photos of bloody bettas with shredded fins on Ultimate Bettas to know to fill the holes with silicone. They don't need an escape hatch because you can just turn the flower pots on their sides and the fish can swim out the way they came in.
That's correct. You don't want to mess with the pH unless you have a great deal of experience and wish to breed a specific species of fish.

Ok i will move the barbs and Platys into the 30 gallon and leave out the oto's. The tank is 2 foot long, is that long enough for the Glass cat's? Also can i add in shrimp to my 5.5 gallon for tankmates to my betta? If the tank isnt long enough for the glass cat's can i replace them with 1 Banjo catfish and 1 brittlenose pleco? Im using a Black Sand substrate found on the Petsmart website :)

Yeah, I forgot to mention the betta size. Bass is absolutely right.
It depends on the shrimp. If you provide a lot of moss and hiding places, it might not be a problem. It really depends on the betta and the shrimp. Some bettas will attack shrimp and some shrimp are known to rip bettas' fins.
I don't know a whole lot about those other species so hopefully someone else chimes in. Did you buy a liquid test kit?

I havent bought it yet but it will be bought at the time i buy the Substate, plants and 2 more decorations for the tank. I forgot it was the male's who get around 4 inchs LOL. At this point i feel a sorority is to dangerous for me and my low level experince therefore im doing a community tank i just havent determined EXACTLY what i want thou ive narrowed it down. I know im moving my Cherry Barbs and Platys out of my 5.5 gallon and buying 3 more female cherry barbs. After that im ripped between a Pair of Kribensis or a Pair of Ram's. I have no clue which i want more and i refuse to put both a pair of each in that size aquarium because chances are it will turn ugly if breeding insumes. My LFS does accept fry if there healthy so i have a home for any fry that do appear. But after the Barbs, Platys and a pair of one of those i have NO earthly idea what else i want at all besides maybe either an African Brown knife or a Banjo Catfish other than that i do not know, any suggestions?

The African brown knife (Xenomystus nigri) will eat your cherry barbs and platy, and needs a 55 gallon tank at a minimum.

My bristlenose didn't have bristles when I got him. I bought him (at Walmart, I will admit) because he looked different shape-wise and color-wise than the other common plecos they had in their tanks. I figured it he started getting too big, I could take him to the LFS. Imagine my surprise when all of a sudden my pleco started growing bristles on its nose! He was only about 1.5-2" when I bought him and didn't start showing his bristles until he was over 3" (he's about 4.5" now). How big are the ones at your LFS?
