The nitrites should start rising after a while. It takes a little patience. This article shows it graphically (which is nice), and also has a great description: Aquamaniacs :: View article - Cycling Safely: The Fishless Method - by Phantom of Tetra

You probably won't see nitrites for a few more days.

Thanks to the kind comments from cynbene, I hope to show off the real quality of the tank and it's lighting soon, I think I may sign up for a photography course, I need to be able to take professional pictures for my day job anyway, needing it for my hobby is just icing on the cake.

Thanks for the link Lotus, it clears up a lot of the questions I had but didn't want to ask. I definately shouldn't have added the second, or third dose of ammonia as I took from iggy's recipe. I can't thank you enough for that! Hopefully it will drop and nitrites will spike for me, I may take the few thigns we have in our 10 gallon and throw them in to help things settle.

you getting pretty excited to put some fish in there cause im getting excited to see some new pics with some fish in there what you going to put in it

I can't wait to get some plant life and move all our fish over. Definately excited, can't come soon eough..

Tank will house;
1 Bala Shark
2 Africian Cichlids
6 Giant Danios
2 Algea Eatas
2 Spotted Catfish

The Bala Shark we have is extremely large so we have to be careful with smaller fish going in, anytime we introduce small fish like the danios he eats one lol, just one though, he never bothers any of them again, I guess he just taste tests them to see if it's better than the pellets we give him. I'd like to add a small school of guppies if we have room but that's still a good deal away...
