Pearl Gourami

I was wndering if a pearl gourami would bother small teteras, as my tank is basicly full of teteras?

I don't think the gourami would bother tetras. I had a blue with a school of neons, and he never bothered them. Just make sure to keep it to only one gourami, pearls are three spots, and they are very territorial against similar fish.

I agree, gouramis only tend to be agressive toward their own species. Occasionally a gourami is just a meanie, so you may want to buy it from somewhere you can exchange it, if you have to.

I don't know what size tank you have, squidney101, but the pearls get to 6 inches.

Thats pritty big I thought that thier average size was 4 inches. Ill think about it some more.

Pearls used to have a max size of four inches, but inbreeding and poor conditions have made it difficult to buy store raised pearls and get them to six, unless you have a truly massive tank. I would say that your pearls will probably top out at around four or four and a half inches.

Dwarf gouramis only get to 2" or 2.5" which makes them good for smaller tanks, or when you don't have a lot of room left. A dwarf neon blue or powder blue would probably look good with neons.

ya I think I am going to get a dwarf, since I am almost out of room, but now I know that when I get my 75 gallon (hopefully) I can keep a pearl in there, cuz they look so nice. Thanx for everyones input.

When you get a 75 I'd suggest four to six pearls, they'll look great and won't bother the other fish!

pearls are rather shy unless they are in a group of 3 or more.
they tend to get 4-4 1/2 inches as stated a few time above.

they are very peaceful, one of the most peaceful of the gourami's

also its good to have a ratio of 1 male to 2 females also, unless your actually breeding.....

I have 1 male and 2 female Pearl in my 75G and they love to play in the tank, like all gourami's they can be pushy at feeding time, but other than that they are a great community fish.

and the best looking gourami in my opinion

I have six pearls and they don't bother any fish...even my small rainbows. In fact, they don't even bother each other...not even in the slightest. They always swim around with each other but are still very shy

I have had 4 female Pearl Gourami in my 29 gal. tank for over a year now and they are the most peaceful fish in the tank. They occasionally will playfully chase or push eachother around durng feeding but that is it.

As mentioned above, mine seem to have maxed out at about 4 inches in length. I consider these to be one of the most beautiful of the gouramis . . . my personal favorite.

How large is your tank? My pearl is certainly the biggest fish in my tank which is only a 20 gallon so if you can fit a pearl in and your just worrying about it bothering the other fish I'd go for it for get a pearl.

unless your tank is overcrowded already, I'd say add a single Pearl in there.

they are usually shy fish if there is only 1 Pearl in a tank of aggressive/hyper fish....

but with a tank of tetra a single Pearl will probably feel like a king among fish!

4 silver tipped
4 cardinals
7 black neons
3zebra danioes
1 sm pleco
and 1 gourami
=29 fish in a 25 gallon
I do weekly water changes.
