Long awaited update...MOM.

Okay. Scored some AWESOME live rock from mommy dearest. Even have some sort of coral stuff or something growing on some of it. Tons of purple in it....No clean up crew or anything in there yet.

Just have a powerhead going, a HOB filter for more water movement...ummmm...heater, sand, and lights.

Unfortunately, I busted one of my light strips....so I gotta go find another one in storage somewhere, so it's just got the powercompacts going. I need to get a mag. cleaner and get the inside glass cleaned up, because it's just filthy right now, and i'm working on getting the powerhead adjusted so it'll quit blowing holes in my sand and showing the UG filterbed I have there to support the rocks. Ummmm.....temp's been staying steady, I've been worrying that it's going to get too warm, we're going to have an awful summer this year.

Hmmm...haven't started testing the water yet, but will do that after i post this update. Haven't seen too much die-off on the rocks, nothing's losing any color.

Going to ghetto-rig a black background for it. I was debating painting the back of the tank with black tempra paint...but now it's full of water, and I don't feel like moving it.

Pictures are coming up in a few min....

:D :D :D :D :D

Okay, picture time. I kind of stirred up the sand a bit, when I had to re-arrange some stuff and re-adjust the powerhead, so that's why it is so cloudy looking. Oh, and the white things on the inside of the glass...anybody know what they are? They're hard...and look spiral-ish...

Picture one..Just a shot of the new rocks i got. Stupid flash... The picture doesn't ddo it justice though. These rocks are a dark dark purple...

Picture 2....just of the massive amount of NOTHING GOING ON in this tank yet....

I tried to zoom in on the coral-ish looking stuff growing on the rock. It looks like a teeny tiny featherduster. But, my zoom, and the cloudy water do not show this very well...

Just another picture of the new rock. I am planning on adding at least 10-11 more pounds. Ugh. Just gotta justify the price!!!

And here is the total setup on the stand. There is a 10gal brackish tank below the salt tank. :)

And here's what lives in the downstairs brackish apartment...

well, got a yellow damsel a few days ago, and 2 hermits...1 little one, and 1 HUGE one, who decided that he wanted to re-arrange the entire tank. He's dug up all of the shells in the tank and moved them to the front, and has toppled over some rock. I need to get some plastic zip ties to fasten the rock together so he doesn't topple them over again. He's freaking HUGE...ugly too.

Going to add more LR before I introduce any more fish....yellow damsel's doing really well. Not going to be keeping that one though...he's too agressive and will torment any new tankmates that are introduced.

Mom called and found a neon dottyback....thinking about getting him in a few weeks....i don't know yet.

Anyway, that's the update....

Putting together another stock list, being that I didn't like what I had originally wanted.....I want to pick 3....maybe 4 at a maximum of these fish....

neon dottyback
orchid dottyback
neon goby
sunrise dottyback
royal gramma
false percula
spotted cardinalfish

I still need to get a clean-up crew put together too...and some of these fish will eat shrimp in the tank, so i think i'm prob. going to stick with hermits...maybe a blennie....i'm not too sure yet.

Ok I see a slight problem with your stock list ideas. Dottybacks are not compatible together. They are nasty little fish so need to be kept with fish that can handle them.
neon goby
royal gramma
false percula
Sounds fine and then your clean up crew.

Those HUGE hermits sound like the pacific hermits and I read somewhere that they are not reef safe. You may want to rethink them.......I agree with guppy on the dottybacks, though I have heard out of all the dottybacks the orchid is the least aggressive. The royal gramma is a nice fish that and a midas blennie would be good together.....along with a clown, or what about a gobie?
