My dad got the aquarium kit from Wal-Mart and he told me that he still has the reciept. Do I need to find that aquarium kit in the store and bring it to customer service with me?? I heard that a few people had to do that.

My dad bought the tank kit at Walmart and he said that he has the reciept. Do I need to bring the tank kit that the tank belongs to (the one in the store) with me to customer service too?? Also, do I have to have proof that the tank was from THIS exact kit??

Hello; Tank looks good. I noted that you have a sponge filter in operation. This should, I think, maintain the beneficial bacteria when it is necessary to change the filter medium in the hang on back filter. (I seem to recall that you have a HOB.) Someone will correct this notion if I am mistaken. After some length of time the sponge material will degrade (at least the stuff from 20+ years ago does) I found some replacement foam at a Walmart this year. I followed a suggestion from this forum and made the foam into two pieces on the same base. The idea is to be able to clean or replace one section at a time and there by maintain the beneficial bacteria. I used to keep marbles in the bottom of filters for the same purpose.

Skjl, you are completely right about me having a HOB. I currently have some panty hose over it so I don't suck up my fry. But I noticed that my fry (all 7 of them) were following Misery (their mom) and I could'n't help but make little imitations of them saying, "No!! Why are you leaving us Mom!! We love you!! Don't go!! *Mother pays no attention*" I don't even think that she realized that they were following her. lol!!

Hello; Here they have a person at the main entrance door that will put a sticker on the tank you are returning. I then go to the service desk first thing and show the returned product and the receipt. If you wish to do an exchange they will then allow you to go pick out the new tank and bring it to the service desk. Some paper work will happen, including a signature on a form. I sometimes do an exchange product for product and other times have them give the money back and then buy the product at my leisure and without having to carry it around the store while doing additional shopping. With credit card purchases, I have had some stores insist on putting the return money back onto the credit card. Not a problem with a direct exchange. This is a much simpler solution to the problem as resealing a tank is an unpleasant chore at best. You will have plenty of opportunity to learn how aggravating silicone can be

If I have to return something to a large chain store, they do sometimes ask for you to fill out a little chit with your name, address and phone number. I have never, ever been contacted with any sort of follow up. This is a normal exercise that doesn't require a lot of hand-wringing - don't worry. If your merchandise is defective, return it. No need for any shenanigans.

yeah they will give you a reciept maybe ask for ID then have your write your name and phone on it. Thats it, pretty easy.

If you have never returned something its a good time to learn ;) lol its not too bad im sure your dad already knows how to return things :)

If you are happy with the 10g just exchange it, they will take the old one keep it at the desk and send you to the pet dept to get a new one, then will do the paperwork when you get the new one. Petty easy and they will tell you what to do :)

Thanks nanu!! I don't have the money right now, but I will upgrade. Most likely over the summer. All I have to do now is clean out the tank again, find the reciept and take it back.

Congratulations! The fry are really awesome! From the latest pic you've attached, i think they are over 3 weeks old. I've observed from my own fry that they don't jus start eating flake food until they are 4 days to 1 week old. Further, they begin to recognize other fishes or feeding patterns until 2 weeks. BTW, my marble-colored platy fry are turning 3 weeks now and all 10 of them have survived so far. I am moving from feeding once to twice a day. I used to feed only once a day for fear of overfeeding them. Some of the babies in the last cycle died of overfeed (or may be that was just my presumption).

for sure, i was just making a suggestion if you could. (i think the 20g set up is like 45.00 but the setup you currently have is like 27.00 you could return and just pay the difference of 22.00) but if you don't have the cash to do so then just even exchange (the same thing for the same thing)

Thanks for the approx. price nanu!! I noticed something REALLY strange when I came home from school today!! I had 2 pieces of baby spinach in my tank (put them in last night) and 1 of them is gone. It's nowhere in my tank and my Oto and snail havn't touched it yet. (they like it to set and get mushy a little) Also, the water level went down 1/3 of an inch. I didn't see or feel and water or dampness, so I don' think that it's leaking. Absolutely nothing is wet. I don't think water could evaporate that fast, but it was abnormally warm in my room (around 74F) but the tank temp was room temp when it's normally a few degrees higher (more like 76-78F for my fry) What could be causing this?? (and the mysterious dissapearence of the baby spinach.

Tank Update!!

It is leaking, but from a small bit in the right front coner. I can't return this one (I got it years ago and I don't know from where), so I have to get some silicone. What is with me and leaky tanks!?!? Anyway, I'll return the badly leaking tank, fix the little leaking tank, and hopefully thing will start to go my way.

Fry Update!!

Webgeek, I truely do not believe that they are that old. They are only a cm long and at a max I think that they would be 2 weeks old. They're just barely bigger then my snail. lol!! Try looking at the width of your thumbnail (I know that sizes vary) but they are either that size or, mainly for guys, less.

Tank Leak Update!!

Ok, so I found out that the leak is coming from both sides of my tank on the bottom. The frame is starting to come off, so I'll return my badly leaking tank to get a new one, set it up, put all my fish in there, buy some silicone, let my minor leaking tank dry, fix my tank, and them put the fry and female Platies in there. *sigh* So much to do and only 2 days to do it.

FYI - Size of fry does not give a good indicator of age. Many factors are involved including how many were in the brood (the more that the mom gave birth to at one time, the smaller they likely are individually at birth), food quality and quantity, water parameters, temperature, etc.

Well, thanks a heap OC. I found a good deal at Lowe's for Aquarium Silicone that's 10oz for $4.99. I already have a caulk gun, so after I return my tank, I can fix my other one!! But I still can't find that 1 piece of baby spinach. o_O Creepy....
