Well,I don't guess it's even a tiger plec.So far I've got somewhere around the Peckoltia vittata and Panaque sp. L-169.I honestly thought I was getting a zebra and had I known I wouldn't have bought this one.Anyway, the only zebra's I found on the net are at Aquabid

There $100 + $55 shipping It seems like as much as these are in the magazines and on cans of fish food they would be more common.Breeders must be keeping the lid on em to maintain the price.

Yes. The reason they arn't common is because wilds are hard to get these days. They live in deep waters and their habitat is being destroyed. Tank bred zebras are around but once bred it takes a few months for fry to reach sellable size. Which means breeders can't keep up with the demand. Only a few come out onto the market at a time because people only buy a few at a time because of the price tag.

$80 for a 3" Zebra.Or you could get a 21" Carachama Verde for $690.That would be much more bang for the buck!

Both are out of range for my fish buget. The Zebra's would be a good investment for someone interested in breeding fish.Probably start out with 5-6 for a guaranteed breeding group.

I never dreamed all these little plecs were going for that. And I thought KOI were high!:D

I imagine you're going to see all sorts of stuff marked up as zebra plecs now. A shame they're sold under false pretences as a lot of them are really nice fish, but don't have the name or kudos people seem to want.
I have never seen a 'special' on these fish that really delivered the fish.
I saw some beautiful thin lines last week at about 50 a shot, 140 for 4, a nice breeding project for someone with patience.
