Hey, no need to get defensive, I'm only quoting what you wrote on fishlore.

And your jewel cichlid won't be showing aggression yet due to the fact that it's been in the tank a very short amount of time and hasn't set up a territory. It's still probably quite nervous of its surroundings, it didn't look particularly confident in the pictures you posted.

He hasn't shown any aggression because he's still settling into the tank. It could be a week before he shows aggression.

Did you actually READ any of the links you posted, Fishman?! They all said the fish grows to 6" and is aggressive. Also, as big54bob said, that aqualandpetplus site is crap. It recommends that the fish live in "dirty yellow water"...WTH?!

I'm not trying to be mean, seriously...I just have very little patience today and honestly, your thread just severed the last nerve I had.

Because i dont think that's whats going to happen :( :( :( and i cant take him back because i just bought him today
You didn't think it was going to happen between your betta and gourami. You didn't think it was going to happen with your acei even after it'd chased down and killed other fish. This may sound blunt but the likelihood that you'll be the exception out of thousands of peoples' experiences with this fish is very very low.

They're a stunning fish, I see why you'd want them. It's just not a good choice for the tank you want. You've been doing quite well with stocking so far and I'd hate to see it ruined by a single impulse buy.

Really you can do whatever you want. We're just the internet.

The thing I've learned about fish, mainly from my betta and gourami, is that things will be fine for a few days while the new fish settles in, things turn bad. Its like when fish don't eat at first, but once they're comfortable they do. Fish won't fight at first (maybe), but once they're comfortable they will.

Things might look okay for a few days, but you could possibly wake up with a tank of dead fish. Do you really want to take the chance of wasting the money and the lives doing this?

If you like cichlids, and I think you do, why not save up and get a huge cichlid tank eventually?

Cant i wait a few days and see if theres ANY agression? if there is i promise il return him
Look, none of us can make you do anything, but you should be doing it for you. We're just here to advise you on the best solution, which we have. Whether you choose to take that advice is entirely your decision.

It could take him weeks to show aggression. Then one day he'll pluck up the confidence to make territory and that'll be the end of it. It's going to happen unfortunately.

Fishman, I appreciate your honesty. Situation still is that the jewel should go back asap.
Most cichlids aren't going to work in a smallish community tank, unfortunately.
I personally think you should round out the schools. Is there anything else that you like that you could safely add to the tank once the jewel is returned?
