That is going to look cool. A lot of people do miss-mashes (sp?) of several different schools of fish, but one big school like that looks more planned out and natural. Plus I imagine the fish appreciate it more as well.

Not sure if I've seen melini cories before, I'd love a pic of them in particular. And of course the full tank shot!

i'll post some pics and i did add all them at once. but a cycle is not needed in this tank. it was well seeded enough with the used filter, plants, driftwood, and rocks from another tank. i've had about 20 guppies my petricola cat and loaches in it for a week with no spike in ammonia or anything. and as for the one big school, i've always loved neons but never had a big enough tank availible to do a school like i wanted. in reality i went to my lfs looking at getting 50 neons BUT reality kicked in and had to settle with 30 lol. i was tempted to do both the standard and black neons but the lack of red on the black neons turned me away from them.

I like that large school of neons - good luck counting them all! lol BTW my daughters phone does the same thing - sometimes they are even upside down. Not sure there is a cure for that.

Well... good luck with that?!?

Obviously I'm no tank expert, but I'd test it 1-2 times a day for a few days just to make sure the BB you have can handle the fish load. If not, the neons are toast.

My luck with neons is; You better by 33% more than your final stocking plan. I bought 15 and 10 eventually made it, but I'm pretty sure they're the ones that brought ick into the tank for me. The last 10 have been real healthy buggers. I like them in large schools. They're very calm and inquisitive that way.

I bought neons for the 72bow. Asked the guy for ten. He gave me 11, but I didn't notice. Later that day one died. So as I was pissing an moaning about the dead fish I had to net out, I recounted them and still had ten. It was like finding that twenty in your old winter coat pocket.

thankfully i have yet have them post upside down thyra lol. and fishdad i was going to use miracle grow organic but i found some called happy frog. it's an organic soil as well. i did about a 2 inch deep layer with about an inch of gravel over top of that. within a week i've already noticed new roots spreading out across the bottom of the glass. also i have had none of them melt suprisingly.

fishy i've done tanks like this before to avoid going through a cycle. I've had 6 over the past 10 years and have only truely cycled 2 of them the traditional constant water changes way. i just normally take a filter from another tank and put it in for a few weeks and the tank is cycled with no water changes or stress on the fish. one thing that helps with this tank is i have filtration for a 150 gallon tank on a 55. all the filters are well seasoned and the water in the tank is constantly flowing through so the bacteria in the filters scrub out any of the ammonia and nitrites before they could possibly have a chance to build up. this is the way i recommend people to cycle their tank if they have one already and etting a new one.

A LFS I frequented when I lived in Florida did just that, but not from a 'feeder goldfish' tank. The odds of bringing disease to your tank from 'established' media that filtered water from sickly fish is very high.

He sold media from his cichlid display tanks and a reef (1000+ gallon) tank. You basically bought a bag of gravel or crushed coral in a section of panty hose from him. He'd then take what you bought and toss it into the left side of his fresh or saltwater tank, and fish you out the same item from the right side (that was already seeded from being put in months prior).
