Thanks! Yes - he is the star of my Nano :D. I like him alot. He wasn't actually as green when I bought him - he had some brownish areas on his back. I tried to pick the best specimen I could find in the store, but after having him for 2 or 3 days he moulted and is now sporting his pretty green shell *thumbsups.

Today I noticed that one of those hairy mushroom things has moved. I didn't think they could move? But it's in a different spot on the live rock. It was actually attached to what appears to be an oyster shell, but now it's definitely on the live rock. Very interesting. I suppose it could be a new one, but I don't think so........I never saw it grow. But anyway they seem to be spreading. Cool!

I might go this weekend and try another itty bitty piece of coral. I'm afraid to try anything big and expensive yet :)

Hey Ram Man.......actually no. I had to go out of town on a family emergency and I haven't really done anything new to the tank. Oh yeah, I did add a clown fish a couple weeks ago, who seems to be doing just fine, but I haven't gotten any new corals yet. I'll see if I can get some pics up of the fish tonight. He's pretty cool, was real shy the first few days but not any more. He comes up to the glass whenever I am near the tank. :D

nice first coral! im pretty sure these are protopalythoas, if they are you can feed them mysis, they will close around it like an anemone.
I tried this the other day and it worked. Cool *thumbsups Except for now when I put the dropper in there, the clownfish comes over and sucks on the end of it :D

CRAP!

:( My emerald crab appears to be dying. He's pretty motionless and limp, when I got home he was kind of resting on his face. That doesn't seem normal. Is it possible he's getting ready to moult? (I've never seen the process so don't know if they act sluggish beforehand). Seems to me that he's dying though. Not sure why.....tested water and all params are 0. Temp is a stable 80.

BUMMER!!

Just keep an eye on him. Crabs of all kinds do crazy things when they are about to molt. And if you are really concerned, grab a 12 or 20 oz plastic soft drink bottle and cut off the top and bury the sliced off top (from the opening down to an inch below from where it widens to the full size) into the substrate to protect the crab, if it is molting.

Just a crazy idea, never tried it under water, it may not even sink...

are you sure its not the molted shell?
Positive, I can see his little mouth parts moving and he moved his legs when I touched him.
One thing I forgot to mention is he is also really pale. I did actually think it was the moult when I first saw him. I'll just keep watching and see what happens.

The only thing in there that could mess with him is the clown, but he isn't paying attention to the crab ATM.

Good idea Lord, I'll keep it in mind if it seems it's going to be necessary.

Just an update...............the crab died last night :( I went to check on him and noticed that his mouth parts stopped moving and I poked him with my finger and he kind of limply fell over. Grrrrrr
I'm going to have to take the tank down in two weeks because we are moving, so I am going to wait until after that before adding anything else.
Tonight I am going to do a water change just to be safe.

I haven't decided if I am going to try an emerald again, but I really like them, so I may.

That's too bad, Limi. Sorry to hear about that.

My first died similarly to that one too. I have one now that I supplement feed almost every night, a piece of dried shrimp skewered to a wooden shishkebob skewer, or a bit of an algae wafer.

I think mine may not have been getting enough food this time around as I only target fed him once a week, if that.

Sorry to hear about your loss as much as it sux its part of the hobby. Have you seen Porcelein Crabs or pompom crabs? those are a couple of other good options. The emeralds are great too and seem to me to appear more often then the Porcelein but they all have their own little personalities. To supplement feed you can get the Plankton sinking pellets mine love it.

GL with whatever you choose next...joshua

Well my boyfriend just called me at work and said he went out and bought me another emerald crab. So much for waiting :p This time around I will be sure he's getting enough food. I think that may be what did it the last time.
Thanks for the tip Joshua, I'll try the plankton.

After I move and get some corals, I'll post some updated pics. The little corals that I have seem to be doing really well so far. I've been feeding them mysis because I like to watch them close around it.
In addition to those maroon colored ones, I have some new ones that popped up that are orange with green inside *thumbsups
