No, I'm using blyxa. I replied to your PM.
I haven't seen your thread - I usually just read the threads that pop up in the home page, but I'll check it out sometime tomorrow, well, today really.

gah! I'm going to have to wait a bit longer for my lighting and CO2. I signed up to go on a trip to China during spring break 2010, and made a $200 deposit to lock-in the rate, and I still have to come up for the funds for my trip in January :p. I saw someone on APC selling the light fixture I wanted to buy for $100 shipped though, and I'm very tempted to buy it... but I'll have to wait to see how much dinero I have after paying the light bill, cell phone bill, and going to the Texas Renaissance Festival this weekend :). I could always dip into my savings account, but that's money I'm saving up for when I'm in Montana, Wyoming, and Oklahoma summer 09... although, I have plenty of time to replenish $100.... Hm, decisions, decisions.

On a side note, thanks to Matt and his discus pictures... I feel like trading in most of my stock here (the angels and lemon tetra at least) for discus! But since I know I'll be out of town a lot in 09, and won't be able to do enough water changes to keep the water pristine... I'll hold off on that idea.

I think I'm going to sell off my anubias and give some to a buddy of mine, I don't think they go with what I'm trying to do. I don't know that I feel the blyxa for a "foreground" either. I may make it more mid-groundy and add glosso as a foreground once I get my lighting and co2, that idea is still up in the air though. Considering I still have pretty low-light (.8wpg) and no CO2 (although I occasionally add excel and some Fe and K), I'm surprised my plants are growing pretty well. The hygro-augustifolia needs a trim already, the ludwigia may be ready soon, and I added some rotala indica, which I didn't think would fare too well or grow much while still low-light and no co2, but it's actually grown, and kept it's pink coloring. The Micranthemum umbrosum I added also seems to be doing well. I think I have some Rotala rotundifolia in there too that I got just for sh***s & giggles  I'm also going to pull out all of the rock that isn't there for the purpose of keeping the pieces of DW where they're supposed to be.

I'll try to take an updated photo (now that the dust from the rescape has settled) sometime... soon. Lately (this week and part of last), I've only been going home to sleep... My schedule has consisted of work, school (late nights I might add), home to sleep, repeat. Semester is almost over though! *BOUNCINGS

If you have enjoyed my novel, thank you for reading. :) Now to go provide some updates to my other two, almost insignificant tanks.. lol.

So I went to the Texas Renaissance Festival today and I am beyond exhausted. I spent a lot of time using the bow & arrows! I was shooting as a righty, even though I'm a lefty (I couldn't find the Lefty bow, they had them tied to the roof, so I couldn't just flip it), and the string kept hitting me when I released the bow, so my left arm is bruised. :(

But anywho, I snapped some fotos of some of my fish, enjoy:

I finally got around to pulling all the lava rock from here. Surprisingly, my blyxa almost doubled considering it's still low light and no CO2 - nearly each stem had a side shoot to it.. A lot of my rotala indica has some good growth too, but many stems keep getting uprooted - I don't know who to blame, i want to say the plecos, but I always see them on the exposed part of the dw.

I sold the majority of my anubias. I think I'm going to pull out the ludwigia repens. I can't decide whether or not to pull out the rotala and try another pinkish plant. I'm going to give it another month or two before I decide anything. I was considering using sunset hygro, since I know it'll give me the bushy look I'm looking for very quickly - but since I know I'm going to be out of town for 3 months during the summer, I don't want to let it take over my tank and choke out my other plants and fish...

I'll try to take a FTS when I get home today. No guarantees though :p, since it's the last week of classes, I'm going to be crunching to get some assignments done, and some studying done for finals.

Dude that is just a stunning tank. Tell me your secret. Thanks for your pm by the way. Sorry I didn't respond I've been away from the computer for a week.

I'll be waiting for it :)
The secret is that apparently I have too much time (and it would seem $) on my hands to plan and put these type of things together.

I completely forgot about the PM! I'll make sure to send it out on Thursday, my days are back-to-back work then school from 8am-10pm tomorrow and wednesday.

Finally getting my lights this weekend! :)

I decided I didn't like the rotala indica or ludwigia repens for this tank.
I have over 100 stems of rotala! If I can't sell them on TPT by tomorrow, I'll donate them to the planted tank club here in town.

Flora for this tank will now be:
Hygrophila Corymbosa 'Augustifolia' (Willow Leaf Hygro)
Hygrophila Polysperma Rosanervig (Sunset Hygro)
Blyxa Japonica
Hemianthus Micranthemoides(sp?)

Pictures to come during the Jan 09 POTM contest ;)

Edit: I have also vowed that after getting my lights, and adding my sunset hygro (once again, haha) and HM, I will not touch/rescape the tank... unless it's to trim and replant. I want to get my tank full and lush! It shouldn't be a problem with the hygro being the main plant :).

Ehem You said could have some fricken repens.

*Ahem*
It's the rotala that's getting either sold off/donated entirely. I still have some ludwigia in another tank.

I have a pretty short-term memory and attention span - It's the people that PM'ed me their addresses that I'm going to remember to send plants too.

Shipping plants isn't free either - the only reason I've been able to send plants to other people for free is because I've sold off others...

My experience with sunset hygro is that it doesn't grow as fast as regular hygro polysperma, which is a good thing. It should fill out nicely under high light, though.
That's good to hear. I was recently sent regular polysperma, but I have some rosanervig too. I got my lights today, and I'm using one of my paintball co2 canisters for now.

Ugh, I can't wait till payday next week, so I can finally get my CO2 canister. I was perusing GLA's website yesterday and saw that their Milwaukee regulaters were on clearance, so I got one for $80something shipped!!! It was quite the steal - many thanks Orlando, you made my CO2 dreams come true sooner :).

I doubt that the paintball canister I have on the 100 will last till the end of the week. They didn't fill it entirely at Academy anyway... I think this guy just wanted me out of his way, oh well. The canister I've had going on the 20 has been going at it since August, and I may get yet another month of use out of it :).

After adding my new lighting yesterday, I noticed I had some hair algae growing on my dw :(, i was adding ferts to help the hygro augustifolia which was suffering from K deficiency. I may have to start dosing Nitrogen to the tank, I can't get them to go above 5ppm, which means my hygro and duckweed are really sucking up everything from the water column. I thought about just feeding the fish more so that they could provide the N, but I already give them two ginormous feedings each day. I'm going to have to order more Potassium Sulfate anyway, so I may as well just order some Potassium Nitrate. I'm going to do some half-dosing on this tank until finals are over, because I won't have too much time to dedicate to the tank in case I have a very bad algae outbreak while I'm trying to get a feel for what fert routine to take.

I think I may have about 50-100 stems of blyxa next month to get rid of :p. If my blyxa almost doubled in low-light no co2, I can only wonder how fast it'll grow in a 'high-tech' set up.

So how about a quick peek as to what it looks like - try to use your imagination to try to see what I'm trying to convey with this tank. :) I'm excited about seeing it fill in! :D

I'll see if I can draw up a schematic of what plants are where sometime tomorrow.

Anyone have anything they can think of for maybe improvements? Other than stop messing with the tank and moving stuff around every week? *crazysmil

Its a good idea but i think someone suggested that for a weeping willow effect but he wanted to stay away from that for some reason. Id just let it be for a week or two to let it grow in more and then see how it looks and what it needs. Looks awesome now though.
