Its a good idea but i think someone suggested that for a weeping willow effect but he wanted to stay away from that for some reason. Id just let it be for a week or two to let it grow in more and then see how it looks and what it needs. Looks awesome now though.
Yup, the moss doesn't really go with what I'd like to do, plus the bn plecos really like the wood. I have a TON of moss on my 29g, so I think I'm OK with moss in my tanks, haha.

How about a vallis forest across the back? Your angels would look gorgeous against that I reckon. Would also add some height to the tank, and set off the foreground plants. It is a stunning tank though.
I thought about a val forrest across the back, but I'm doing that on my 29g also, so I figured I'd do something different in each of my tanks. The hygros will be taking over that position though, once they fill in. Which should hopefully be within a month of two! :D

My CO2 reactor came in today, it's a real beauty! I can't wait to get a CO2 tank next week! I'm hoping I can get a real bargain, since I have to buy a bunch of winter gear for a trip in January.

But anywho, one final exam down, one to go! Then I can focus on the tank a lot more! :D

Quick update as I take a break from studying for finals.

the regular Hygro Polysperma that made its way into my tank has more than tripled since it's addition a week ago. The sunset variety has also grown some, but as Lotus mentioned with her experience, not as fast as the regular variety. The Hygro Augustifolia has also grown a lot and needs a trim. Those will probably be going straight into the trash though.

There was a nasty outbreak of green beard algae (?) in the tank. It's covering most of my driftwood - I don't really mind how it looks on the driftwood - and also the upper leaves of my augustifolia. I haven't been dosing very much, except for double dosing of excel every other day, so I know it's the fact that my lights are on for such a long time. My timer has been acting all trippy.

I'm done with finals tonight, so I should be able to spend more time with the tank getting rid of the algae.

Will amano shrimp help me get rid of the existing brush algae while I correct the problems causing my algae? I may wait till my tank fills in a lot more before getting amanos though.

I like your lemon tetra's. I had a school of 20 but didnt last long do to high temps. If you put some moss in there and feed them live black worms they spawn like crazy. Very easy tetra to breed.

For shame - the biggest, and my favorite of the angelfish was found dead this morning. He didn't appear to be doing too well for the past few weeks, so I was expecting him (or her) to die at any moment. :(

What temps did you have them in? I've had mine in temps as high as 82. I forgot I disconnected the heater during the last major water change, so it's been hovering between 69-75 as of lately.

My fish have been taking small chunks of algae out, so I may not even need to get SAEs or amanos. I'll just keep doing the light feedings. I'm going to have a serious N deficiency though... so I guess I'll have to order some KNO3 to dose. In the meantime I suppose I can dose some good ol' Flourish.

My paintball canister ran out of CO2 overnight as well. I was hoping it would last until the end of the day today, as I was going to go get my 5 or 10# canister after work. The excel I dosed this morn will have to suffice for 1 day though.

BBA I've killed before with H202 and excel dosings. What I have, though, is a green beard algae, which seems to be impervious to excel dosing, and which I think looks great on the dw, I just don't want it on my plants, haha - namely the augustifolia. Oddly enough, I even found some strands of it on my duckweed!!! But beggars can't be choosers, I suppose.

I know that many, many months from now, once my tank has reached some type of equilibrium in terms of algae, nutrient supply, and all that jazz, I'm going to want to replace the regular (green) hygro polysperma. I just don't know what though. I'll use this time to research which plants will provide the 'colors' and 'texture' i'd like to see. I want something that'll stand out in front of the green augustifolia.

I wonder what became of that dead angel from yesterday. I was rushing in the morning to get to work, that I didn't have time to get the dead body out... and then it disappeared by the time I got home last night. Could the other fish really have eaten it THAT quickly???

In other news; CO2 cylinder is here! Well, it's sitting in my car, I went during my lunch break to get one, since the welding shops are closed by the time I get off of work. I can't wait till I get home so I can play with my new toys! :D I have to remember to buy a seal to put between the regulator and cylinder, on the way home.

I had a scare this morning as well. As I was dosing excel, and I was putting the top back on the 90% full bottle, the bottle slipped from my hand and into the aquarium it went. I can't recall when the last time my reflexes were that quick, haha. The bottle fell straight down and I think some tank water made its way inside the bottle, but none of the excel made its way out.

My CO2 canister is all set up! Took me a while to figure out how to work that regulator though. I trimmed the augustifolia, removed the vast majority of my giant duckweed, and brought over the sunset I had in my 20g - which was enough to place in all the areas I wanted it to be at. :D
It'll be filled up and lush in no time at all! *thumbsups

My BNP's seem to be putting a small dent on the algae on the DW!!! I had nothing to worry about! I suppose I won't be needing any amano after all.

I'll do my best to take a picture after I get out of work tomorrow.

Just remember one thing: leave some instructions near the tank. I had my tank filled for the first time six months ago. Three weeks ago I had it refilled and forgot to turn it on slowly. I must have blew a gasket because the gauge on the right is all screwed up. Learn by my mistakes.

Before releasing the photo of my tank... I'd like to say that a pair formed from the angels, and they spawned! :D So now my 100 has 1 breeding pair of GBR and 1 breeding pair of angels. :D Since it's a 'community' tank, I'm obviously not going to expect anything to survive, but it's exciting nonetheless. But anywho, let's take a look at the transformations and progress of my 100g tank.

Nothing too special, I kinda just threw everything in there until I had time to do a scape.

Then I find some of the most spectacular driftwood I've ever laid my eyes on. The positioning of each piece of wood was just magnificent (to me :p)

Gravity however has decided it will not have all that awesomeness in one tank.

Then I had another vision of how this tank was going to look. the picture came out great, compared to all the others... I'm sorry the photo that follows this one isn't up to the same standards, I'm a bit tired from lack of sleep.

Gravity may have won this round, but after I move away to grad school, and bring this tank with me (oh believe me, I'll apartment hunt in Oklahoma or Colorado - assuming I get into OU or CSM, that is :D, till I find a place that'll allow me to have that 100g!) I'm going to replace the substrate with something coarser, and i'll make sure to leave it 'thick' enough to leave these pieces of dw where I leave them!

Can anyone see where I'm trying to go with this??? It's pretty difficult to tell right now, unless you're in my head... but once the stems start to grow up, and bushier, maybe people can see where I'm going.

Questions, comments, concerns, input, suggestions, etc?
