I pick up my baby tomorrow, after work. I really wanted to take the day off, since I'm the only one from my group at work :(. But alas, I have to work if I want to get paid for today's holiday. I'm only going to work half day though. I need to get this thing up and running ASAP. My ludwigia's are getting twisted and deformed from just floating in my other tanks :(. If I remember correctly, they don't recover from that, right? It doesn't matter too much, since I plan on making the 'ludwigia bushes' taller, but still... the initial set up won't be as nice as pre-crack.

Hope everyone had a happy new year! I certainly had a blast last night... but I'm paying for it today... : \

For shame... my trip was cancelled :(
I was looking forward to going back to New Mexico & Colorado.
I guess now I have a whole week to work on this puppy to get her back up and running great.
Hmm, my car is 4WD, I do love driving... maybe I'll make a road trip to New Mexico at least... I'll see.

So it seems we'll be making a trip afterall, but it won't be through the school... which is OK. We won't be going to Colorado, but we'll still get to go to New Mexico! I've gotta drive my car though.. which I don't mind, I love driving!

But anywho, my dad and I went to exchange the tank... I decided to put a blue background this time around - my dad helped push me toward the side of blue... he said it looks brighter and cheerier, like during the daytime...

If I think it's worthy enough to be in the Jan POTM, I won't be posting pictures... sorry. Chances are though, it'll be too cloudy, and my plants will be so twisted and deformed... But back to it... I got tired adding back all the amazonia soil I previously had... now I have to add the other bags I've got.

Hmmm..does it really matter if you post pics? We all know what your tank looks like, the driftwood would give it away.

Haha, what if I changed it up?

The way it looks, I won't be entering the tank in the POTM contest this month. It'll take at least 1-2 days to clear, and the plants are twisted, so maybe I'll just save it for later on in the year, during the freshwater planted tank POTM.

urgh. about 95% of my 100+ stems of blyxa melted... I should've put them in a tank and just let the other fish/shrimp be more crowded. :(
I lost some sunset hygro too, but I'm not too sad about it, as it grows ridiculously fast. I lost the Hemianthus Micranthemoides too. Oh well.

I wish the tank would clear out faster! I've only been able to plant the two back corners.

I'll go see if I can find a couple of other plants tomorrow as I continue to get ready for my trip. Hopefully I'll have a very nice looking / recovering tank to come home to next week.

Lol, true. The thing is still really cloudy though, it's not going to clear up by tonight. So anyone waiting for photos, will have to wait till I come back next week.

I found an LFS today that had a lot of young bolivian rams. I was so excited when I saw them, I've been looking for them for a long time. I asked the guy to hold me 4 until I got back next week. He said he would. Isn't it great when the people at the LFS already know who you are and will do favors for you like babysit your fish while you try to get it replaced b/c it cracked... or how they'll hold some fish you want to buy, or how they'll hook you up with free plants, wood, even fish. :D

Anywho, I've got to keep getting ready... I'm running out of time!

Yea I wish I had more than 2 LFS that are not chain stores, One is great the other not so great but both cater to SW more than FW, but the not so great one sell PC flourescents for a good price so I have to use them for that reason. Well I also found I can purchase the bulbs on ebay for about $20 less even with shipping than in a LFS.

Yeah, the PC bulbs are ridiculously expensive at most LFS here in Htown. There's one where they cost about how much it would online. City Pets, fyi, if you're ever in Houston. I'll certainly miss having everything I want within a very large city when I go to grad school... : /

But in other news... I did a small water change and managed to take this picture. I mostly did the water change b/c my water was hovering over 85F and rising! All my heaters were off, so I'm guessing it's from the lights... and the fact that it was in the 80s today. Ahh, warm southern weather... I'll miss you for a week. :p

Enjoy, :) hopefully by the time I get back, the water will be clear, and there'll be better growth. I'm not too crazy about the blue background, but that may change once I see it with clear water.

I'm out for a week! I've got to get some sleep. I have to wake up in less than 6 hours.*SLEEPING*

The tank looks like total crap.

I'm about ready to call it quits. I came back just a while ago to find the vast majority of the plants dead. All that remains is the Ludwigia Repens... and even then, it doesn't look too hot. I have no idea what went wrong with the tank.

I'm just going to pull out what's dead, if the tank is cycled already, pick my fish back up... and let the tank do whatever the heck it wants to do... or just throw out all the tanks and focus only on school and work.

Don't give up hope! There has to be a reason for the problem. Just so I don't have to go back and re-read the entire thread give us some details: how many wpg's, ferts, substrate, etc.

Maybe the problem is the plant; some just don't do well in certain types of water. I know there are some that I have tried to grow and they never survive, no matter what I do (star grass being one).

the thing is that they were all okay before the new tank and the move... so everything is the same basically but I'm guessing the tank just wasn't stable yet... The filters should still be cycled so keep the fish but maybe wait and add plants slower?

Sorry to hear you came back to a sick tank :( Don't give up!

If the tank got hot (as it was before you went away), that could have melted the plants. Some just don't do well when it gets that hot. Also, because they were out of the light for a while before you put them in the new tank, they may have been stressed/dying already. :(
