Hello; Sounds like a plan on the future betta. I have kept them in community tanks before and found that they were the ones getting nipped by other fish. You may want to remove the divider when you will have time to keep a close eye on things. Thanks for the vote of confidence, but do not fail to question advice from me of anyone else. Think about it to see if it makes sense to you. Also there are several other forums and sources of information on the internet and hidden in books.

Thanks, I will. I heard that Neon Tetras are good and possibly some livebearers, depending on their personality. What type of Betta(s) did you have?? MY friend wants a Halfmoon, but my lfs rarely gets any. The said that if they get one, that they'll call me and tell me. I'm pretty sure I can ask them to hold it, but I don't know. I really want to volunteer there too!! I just, don't know how to ask. I will the next time I go there (I think) but that will be in 3 weeks. I know everyone's names, but I can't remember who's the manager. I know that there is a co-manager that works with only fish stuff, but again, I don't know how to ask. I'm a horrible people person. I'm extremely shy, although people that know me say that I'm very outgoing.

Hello; I have only kept the more common varities of bettea splendens thus far. One thing I seem to recall is that bettas do better if the cover is tight enough to keep the air directly above the water moist and warm. It does not have to be super tight however, but enough to hold in some moisture. They come from areas where dissolved oxygen can be low in the water and take a gulp of air from time to time. They have a small chamber lined with blood vessels where the oxygen can be absorbed from that gulp of air. The thinking is that cold dry air above a betta tank causes them problems.
