For those of you checking in on the forum during 'the big transition,' here's a tiny glimpse at my newest of cichlids...

Like Katie said, they are salvini cichlids (Central American).
As for the 55 gal...it is set up and running...barely.

I'm going to give it a good week or so before adding the salvini.
Forum should be back up and running back the way it used to by then, so I'll start a more permanent thread on the setup later.

Right now the tank is a rough 'throwing together' of a bunch of random driftwood, rocks, fake plants, and cave ornaments I had laying around. It's embarrassing to look at right now, so I'll post pics once I've gotten the $$$ funds to get it a little closer to how I want it to be set up.

Thanks for the comments. ;)

So how did you rearrange things?? :p
Hehe...okay...here goes:

Sorry it's so dark...one crappy 17 Watt bulb just doesn't do a whole lot.

It's not that terrible I guess...
Still, it drives me nuts because I have these 'grand visions' of how I want it to look, and it's nowhere near close to that yet. lol

Other than the driftwood, everything else will probably be thrown outta' there once I get all the stuff I want.

Thanks for the comments!
And yes, Jeff, the salvini in that baby cray tank has pretty much wiped out the entire blue cray population.
(10 gal. in my sig. still has lots though)

But I was talking about where did you put all the tanks? LOL There was another thread where we were talking about where you were going to put I think it was a 38G.
LMAO...woops!
I don't have updated pics to explain it, but basically the 55 gal. is where the 38 gal. used to be. The 38 gal. got moved to where the 12 gal. Eclipse and 10 gal. tanks sat on a stand together (both of which, along with the stand, were moved into a corner of the spare bedroom/office and will be sold very shortly!).

Hope that clears it up. I can try to get pics if you want. ;)

straitjacket...do you have salvinis? If so, I'd love to hear more about em' and see updates/pics, etc. Thanks for the compliments...I've got more pics for ya'! ;)

The following are pics of the 2 sals that have remained darker.

Of the other two remaining sals, thus far one has remained fairly bland in coloration (it's the smallest of the 4), so I won't bother posting pics of that one.

The other sal (not shown in these latest pics) has actually colored-up the most out of all of them so far. I'll post pics of that one later!

I held out for a decent strain of salvini before I finally gave in. I bought only two at 2" and they were a definite M&F purchase. Unfortunately when housing them the female took to to my male Uro rather than her intended male and shunned him. Even more unfortunate I lost my male salvini during my recent move back home to L.A..
They're feisty beasties, the female especially. Being housed in a 6' 135gl tank she and the Uro take over half the tank easily. They are housed with other juvenile CA cichlids who will be split upon sexual maturity. The Uro, by nature a cool and collected bugger, but being completely owned by the little Mrs. carries out her every whim. She charges fish 4 times her size from the immediate territory and the uro steers everyone clear of the general territory with a firm but gentle hand as if to only warn "you don't wanna make her mad". lol
The male was 4" when I lost him, the female is currently about 3.5".
Pictures?

The dirty dirty:

...and the Uro couldn't be any happier.

I'll be on the lookout for another good male.

They're notorious for their own brand of "tough lough", the female usually be the rougher of the two. It's a piscene drama. They're great to watch. Who needs soaps with salvini action??? :D
Hope you do well with them. They look promising! The one in the third picure stands out nicely. Keep us updated!

Awesome! Thanks for the pics!
Looking at your sals' pristine finnage, it's obvious that they were the bosses of the tank.

That stinks that you lost your male...how'd that happen?

So are the 'Mrs.' sal and the Uro (what exactly is that, by the way?) breeding? Can they produce viable offspring?

Quick Update

I've added a black background, and I'll be heading out today to see if I can get my hands on some decent driftwood.

Sadly the glass was already scratched near the middle on both sides when I purchased it. :(

This is the salvini that has colored-up the most so far.

I can't wait to add them all to the main tank so that they can actually swim around and start growing again!
