What size outlet is on your pump and Over flow? The best thing to do would to have them the same. Then you dont have to buy 2 sizes of pipe. If not get the size that fits the outlet that is on there. After that Measure and dry fit everything. Once you are happy with it. Glue and let dry. Just make sure the PVC glue is drinking water safe.

Well both are different. one is 1" the other is 3/4". Too bad I don't have the same. well its too late now I already ordered the stuff. So I will have to buy 2 different size 10' pipes. Well I would also have to connect elbows to them and other stuff too.. well thanks for the help! I will figure out the rest once I get the overflow and the return pump. Thanks again.

Hey nice i'm going to order my pump and stuff tomorrow hoping to get it set up by next week so i'll see yours first i guess :D one thing how far is the pump from the tank? i'm guessing around 3 feet but that tank seems alittle to much power ;)
good luck
Nick
BTW got a picture of the stuff the overflow came with, i opened mine and think i'm missing something just though i'd ask.

A little Update!!

I got all the PVC pipes I needed. I got an adapter for the pump which was 3/4". now it will be 1". So I will have 1" pvc piping all the way. Pics below.

Got 14 x 90 degree elbows, 4 x 45 degree, 1 x T,1 x primer & pvc cement and a pvc pipe cutter.

I got 2 x 10' 1 inch pipes. Just in case. I can return one if not needed.

last pic is the instructions on how to cement the pipes.

Any suggestions!!

nice cant wait makes me wanna get mine started but i wanna make sure i do i do this other stuff right first and yea follow the directions there really easy :D

I can't wait too. I was working on a 15 gallon tall tank deal and it went through. $15 with delivery. now the problem is that it is too tall it can't fit the pvc pipes. Either I remove the bottom shelf of the metal stand, not too sure about that. Removing the bottom shelf will compromise the stability of the stand. Don't know what to do. oh and I still did not get the glass cutter to make the sump. I called them up and they said it will come on Monday which puts me back.I am going to break my 10 gallon and use the glass for the baffles. The only way to get the 15 gallon tank to work is to remove the bottom shelf. And put the tank on the carpet. Any suggestions!!!

could you remove the top brace, cut each pane of glass to make it shorter, and put the brace back on?

WOW! Thats the best Idea I have heard today!! How come I never though off that. Well thanks for the idea. I think that is what I am going to do for sure. I will remove about 1.5" which will definitely help a lot. And again thanks for the Idea.

haha, no problem there. i was like hmmm... you can get glass cut... just cut it. haha, the only thing is, can you cut it while its together, or will you have to pull the silicone off of the entire tank, cut the panes, and then resilicone it back together?

I wont take the tank apart! Will just cut the top and use a blade to remove the silicone from the cut part. Resiliconing the whole tank is a definite no no. Taking the tank apart will hurt the integrity of the tank.

Update

Today I made another trip to home depot and got 6 10"x 12" of glass for the sump, glass cutter and silicone to glue it. I dropped the idea of breaking my 10 G for the glass. Pics are below. Will start cutting and glueing soon. Will see how it goes and will keep you guys updated.

how much did that cost?
BTW is that glass precut? (if so where did you find it)
I plan on going there tomorrow to get everything i need ;)

Good luck, (for you and me :p)
Nick

Well it cost me about $20. The glass was precut and i found it at home depot. I think it was like $2.00 a piece. Well siliconing the sump was not that easy. Neither was cutting the glass. had a few set back. But everything came out ok. Will post some pics tomorrow.

Update..

I had my 1st run yesterday in the night at about 3:00 am.. Took me 5 hours to get everything setup and running. Well the 1st run was not good. The return pump is a little too strong for the over flow. So i had to make another trip to home depot and get a valve so i can control the speed. Hope it will help.
